seed treatment in soil, newbie question

I know this has been talked about several times. I got a few seeds to crack open through germination so i stuck them in some soil. Now the question. Ive read several different conflicting posts that the non-sprouted seeds need light and some people say they dont. So whats the word here? Ive got a 100watt cfl 6500k on it. they are under a lil greenhouse container as well. Will they break the soil? or do i need to cut the light and give them darkness. Im growing inside a cabinet that is lined with white contact paper. thanks in advance

They do not need light in order to break the soil, gravity gives them all the information they need. If you put the lights on now or not is up to you. If you check them regularly then you can keep the lights off until they've broken the surface. If the lights don't come on soon after they break the soil the seedling will stretch (thinking it is still in the soil) and result in a lanky stem which will struggle to support the weight. For this reason people leave the lights on before they break the surface. Hope this helps. Happy growing!

Oh and remove the paper and replace it with mylar, or just paint the walls with matt white paint. Paper is porous and absorbs moisture and is, to all intents and purposes, a breeding ground for mold.

best thing i would say to that is to put the cfl really close to the soil they give a lil heat but thats good since the seed is only an inch under the soil the heat the cfl gives off should keep the soil slightly warm helping to speed up the poppin out of ground at least in my grow it helped alot to keep the soil warmer i did it and when i came back 3 days later i had about 6 outta 8 seeds sprouted
