OK everyone. So I've heard mixed emotions of whether to use the 24/0 or 12/12 light cycles from the seedling stage. What do you think?

I think it depends on the intensity of the lights heat and your ventilation. If you have no heating issues go for the 24/0. I myself would go 19/5 with a high watt bulb, low watt or cfl 24/0.

IMO. I think if you want bigger plants , have the head room and time you should go with the longer lighting period. If you do not have the space or do not want to spend time on veg then go 12/12. Either way i think you'll be a happy camper , Good Luck.

Happy Growing!

24/0, 20/4, 18/6 etc will all keep a plant veging, allowing you to grow the plants as big as possible by giving them more time to grow. This can mean a higher yield at the cost of more time and electricity costs. This means you can grow less plants and still get a high yield off larger plants. It's been argued back and forth whether 24/0 light or some cycle with a dark period (18/6) is better, but there really hasn't been solid proof to prove either side. I think a dark period is good, since everything needs rest once in a while, but again there has been no solid proof either way.

Growing 12/12 from seedling forces the plant to start producing flowers as early as possible, leading to a smaller plant and generally lower yield as it has had no time to reach it's potential in the veg stage, but this leads to a quicker harvest. This means you can get a faster harvest, but you will need to grow more plants to get the same yield. I imagine this would be great in a SOG setup, or if you don't have a separate area for veging plants

Good info. Im using cfl's. I think ill stick with the 24/0 for now as im not in any hurry to harvest. I need time to get my hands on quality seeds but im leary of ordering online. its just too risky. I think in the near future when i do get some seeds i will experiment with both cycles to get some data. thanks to all who voted.

@Smooth: I think if you look around you will find some reputable sources to buy seeds from online. I just received the seeds I ordered from Nirvana and I sent them straight cash in the mail.
