Seedling clawing in DWC

Hey guys,

Am growing OG Kush from feminized seed Third grow. In DWC. I just removed the seedling from a coco pellet to bare root and transferred it into a 5 gal DWC, about a week back. No visible roots as yet.

Using advanced nutrients Jungle Juice series along with Voodoo Juice. Sensi cal mag - Current PPM 500 ph 5.6-5.8

Noticed one of the seedlings clawing. With no yellowing very slow growth.. Am thinking N toxicoty?? High water level??

Here is a photo of the concered seedling. Your advice and thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you for your response. My water level is 2 inches below the net pot. Am not top feeding.

Have you given the plant any lil bit if water in the past week? If you aren't seeing roots she may be thirsty because her roots aren't seeing water.

I normally start in a rapid rooter plug so i just dabble a little water onto the rooter before roots reach water to keep in moist and have something to drink. I also have the rooter really close to bottom of netpot so water can wick thru a thin layer of hydroton to keep it moist.

Yours seems high up with lots of hydroton underneath(just guessing, not sure on netpot height and where the roots sit) so possibly the roots are dry causing this problem.

Thank you for fast response!

What I have just done is, removed my seedling to check for new roots. During this process the hydroton was very moist. My seedling was sitting an inch above the net pot.

I see tiny little roots!

So i repositioned the seedling to where I weaved the old and new roots through the bottom of the net pot - about half way into the DWC bucket. Water level kept at the same distance. It is now gently splashing the roots

Welcome. Everything sounds good to me, EC could be a lil lower based off of my normal schedule but it's not like the plant is actually drinking a bunch and being overloaded since roots aren't in the water. Only thing that leaves me to is maybe some stress from transplanting which kinda goes with the reason your roots are too small. I start my seeds right in the place they end, in my net pot, so by day 8 my roots are in the water. I think because you didn't start in the final destination your roots are lacking and causing lack of oxygen to this "large" of a plant.(i know it's not large, but compared to the root growth to plant ratio the plant is exceeding where i'd want).

I've never transplanted myself so I am only giving my best guess since everything else sounds fine to me. I'd say just let it go, don't move it around anymore and it should move past this once the roots grow down into the water and become established.

Wow! Very important knowledge I have learned today. I will from now onwards will begin my seedljngs I their final destination pots. My method has backed up my grow by a month!!
