Seedling help

Hello everyone. I dropped a pineapple express yesterday and it has a small tail in the ppt <.5". My final medium is coco+perlite, but I plan to put the seed in a jiffy pellet first. I have a few different lights for seedlings and will then switch to a MH TS1000 when it goes in the tent. My question now is tho, what should I focus on for temp, humidity and light height/ duration until I transplant into the coco?

Little ones like it in the low to mid 80s, with relative humidity > 50%. Use a humidifier to help with the RH if needed. Lights should be a little weaker right now. Fluorescent grow tubes, like a T5 hood, or compact fluorescent lights (CFL) work great. I start my T5 hood about 18" above the sprouts. I move it to just a few inches above when they get a couple pairs of nodes (shoots coming off the main stalk). You should have your light schedule at 18hrs on/6hrs off.

Thanks, I'll have to play with one of the lights I have but this still helps

Also, if you plan on growing via Coco, make sure you pick up some CaliMag. Coco requires it, and if you don't add it, you'll see nutrient deficiencies.

Get yourself a cheap lumin meter on Amazon. Use it to dial in the light intensity, regardless of the light used. Sprouts need just a few thousand lumins to get going. When you get to veg, you'll be looking at the 30k to 40k range. In flower, you'll want between 45k and 70k, if you can swing it, without frying the tops.

Is cal mag deficiency in coco cuz of coco or is it more a lack of nutrients and /or type of water being used?

As far as needing Calmag for Coco, I'm not sure of the exact reason, but know that you have to use it. Lots of people, including myself, mistakenly don't add it when first growing in Coco, and deficiencies will appear, even when adding regular nutrients. You need to use Calmag in addition to the regular nutes.

I've never used calmag when growing in coco, drain to waste hydro, DWC, or soil and I never get any calcium or magnesium deficiencies. Whether you need it or not depends on the nutrients you use. I use a 4-10-20 micronutrient blend and 13-0-0 calcium nitrate. The calcium nitrate as the primary nitrogen source provides all the calcium needed when growing in coco. Same thing with Jacks 5-12-26 and calcium nitrate or Masterblend 5-11-26 and calcium nitrate. The cannabis specific nutrient brands leave out calcium so they can sell people bottles of calmag. There is no reason a base nutrient should be lacking adequate amounts of calcium. Especially the coco specific nutrients which lack it as well and have their own CalMag that they want you to buy.
