Seedling In 5 Gallon

What’s up guys! I’m starting my second grow next week with some critical jack autoflower delicious seeds and I was wondering if I could just plant them in their final 5 gallon pot or use a solo cup first then transfer. I have roots organic original soil and coast of Maine soil and was wondering if I could mix two soils together. I want to produce the biggest yields possible. Any feedback would be great. Thanks!
Straight to five gallon for big plants. Just plant and pretty much ignore the first three weeks.

That's what will yield the most.

If you want BIG AUTOS .... Go SOILESS.

WaterFarm , DWC , Hempy Bucket , Hydro .

For soil ... up the perlite ratio .
Good point, wish I tried it from the beginning. Soil just restricts the roots too much. I got so pissed (in a good way) to see other's autos grow 3x as much/gallon soil grow.

I've been reading about hempy and dwc..so got excited bought an airstone and airpump from wally wawa (2.8LPM did not say "grow/hydro" on it so it was 1/4th the cost), perlite, need to buy more coco, burlap landscape cover from Home Depot and I have a 2 gallon bucket.
5" airstone will go below the 2" hole from top under perlite and maybe those cocopuffs rocks mixed in. Cut a circle from the burlap to line the bucket to the bottom slightly smaller diameter to remediate root bound and be able to safley lift and inspect the stone/roots.
Main media will be 50/50 coco/perlite.
What do ya'll think?

Simple hempy bucket is the easiest .... drain to waste setup.

Full perlite ( regular or chunk ) ....

Or Perlite / vermiculite mix ( about 3:1 )

Coco will work too , some growers put growstones at bottom then top with coco.

Simple PH ( 5.5 to 6.0 )

I shoot for 5.8 ( allow for drift ) .
GH Nutes work well , and megacrop.

Thanks I have gh and 5.8 for the feed I'm guessing.
Would an airstone at the bottom help?
Oh is my 125w (actual watts) led not enough to use all that oxygen photosynthesis

Some guys mod their buckets with air stones and such , I keep things simple.
Go to local nursery and buy a large 4 cu. bag of perlite , I pay like $22 bucks.

Grab a bucket ( Lowe’s / Home Depot / donut shop ) .... the donut shop usually throw out or charge small fee for empty buckets ( food grade white ). You can make any size hemp bucket ( 1/3/5 ).
The pic I showed you are actually 1 gallon buckets ( sand pail ) so be aware of this when choosing a size for your area ..... be careful of dust from perlite also.

Simple hole about 2” from base of bucket and you are ready to rock. ( you tube has vids )

I like running the tap “thru” the bucket with perlite to help rinse it out and see how it drains .
Sometimes I gotta poke a stick into hole to free up blocks . And look for relatively clear runoff.
Here is where you will notice the weight difference in watering ..... heavy and light when lifted.
I leave the REZ at bottom with plain water for now.

You can germ your seed in anyway you like ... ( in a rooter plug / cube / peat plug ) then “ plant “ in to center of perlite. Misting the emerging seedling now and then to keep hydrated as taproot will move quickly to bottom seeking moisture. I sometimes add a light mix ( thrive Alive red or clonex “ liquid “ ) in water at bottom or just water. Once tap hits it , plant growth accelerates rapidly.

I am never ran the coco version of Hempy , so others may be better suited to answer that for you.

Peace.

Great info and I like your Mylar is that a custom tent? That's a beautiful grow out of a 1 gallon! IN spring i have no issues outside but my grow tent inside is only 2x2x5 :( The garage will be too hot in spring but i have a 3' x 14" (its open though) 5' shelf rack with Mylar around it.

HD here had 2CU perlite more than enough for me and pretty cheap.
Yea I have 7 gallon fab pots i use to flush the perlite and spray the crap out of it literally. I might even sift it get the small ones out.

So you pour water to the bottom reservoir specifically trying to avoid drenching the top media with the seedling in it?

Im going to use a clear food grade 1.5 gallon measure and storage container, ill wrap mylar around it to block light if the burlap isnt protecting the roots enough.

Lowe’s has 2 gallon blue shorty buckets that work beautifully...
Tent just re-skinned with Mylar to enhance reflectibility over standard .

Here is the simplest way :

EA170812-E475-482B-81E9-922E9523428F.jpeg 7A31DFEA-1299-4402-8ED5-A724256991CA.jpeg 80AA13B9-9465-4AF1-B2FE-00EF273F11DA.jpeg

Buckets are under $4 ... remove handle . Can be used over and over.
Watering “ at most “ may be twice a week. May change as plant grows and feeds.
No need for boosters or other shit .
Tap water will work ( ph adjusted ) , no need for RO or other water shit.
Calmag MAY need to be added occasionally.
You STILL CAN LST , TOP , MAINLINE , FIM , SUPERCROP as you wish. ( some autos )
Photoperiod plants can be trained in any way you like .

You WILL need to run PLAIN WATER from time to time to flush out salt build up.
You do not need to run gallons thru it , just to the point of runoff . It refreshes Rez every time it runs off. Just maintain ph.

Optional:
Raised on short platform to ease overflow containment.
Saucer or catch tray for overflow
Vermiculite / perlite mix ( 3 part perlite to 1 part Vermiculite)
( vermiculite keeps roots partially moist as it has slight water retention)
Good 2 or 3 part nute line - or megacrop ( 1 nute all the way to harvest )

Good luck

I start in small cups and move to final pot after first pointy leafs (my final is 10 liter, 2 gal)
About 2-4days after sprout and it's in final pot.
Auto grow lot of roots in first 3 weeks, you don't want to miss it

I did that with my dreammatic seedling after it germinated in a rapid rooter and it did great. Just make sure u add just a little water when they need it because once a five gallon is soaked it's hard for it to dry back out

Sorry I’ve been away for a few weeks. But you’re right it took a little over a week to dry out I think I have it too much water lol. Here’s is what they look like...the white Widdow is at week 3, the smaller one, and the critical jack is at week 4. How do they look and should I start giving nutes now? I have floragro, Micro, bloom hardwater. I feel like the white Widdow is a little small. Do they explode after a few more weeks? Are they still building its roots? I transferred from solo cup to 5 gallon...

I honestly think they look amazing great job. Each strain is different but I would say around 25 days right before flower they start booming so I would say for both any day now your going to see a massive explosion of growth if you have not gave notes yet I would bring them into the watering before u know it you will be adding a p booster and be well on your way to rock hard buds. This is my dreammatic at day 29. it is larger because it went into flowering by day 23. I use megacrop very inexpensive and works amazing and I use tiger bloom for the p booster20181123_091816.jpg

Wow looks great! Thanks! So should I give them a dose of nutes today? Floragro about 1/4th a dose?

CriticalJack18

Yes I would see how it goes and work your way to the full dose next time. I would do half the dose you should be fine with that.
I just gave both 1/4 of a dose because I suffered some pretty bad nute burn from roots organic nutes last time. I didn’t like it at all. I’m using the flora hardwater series now. I will bump it up to half next time and work my way up. If the water takes longer than usual to dry out, almost a week, should I just feed with every watering?

No you don't want to give them newts every watering because they will suffer from burn also before mine started flowering in the five gallon bucket I was only giving them three quarters of a liter every other day so if I were you that is what I would do and it should be dried out when it is time to water every other day maybe give them event half a liter if it is not drying out but every grow is different temperatures humidity it all plays a role in it drying

Ok so run off doesn’t matter. In order for me to get run off I have to give over a half a gallon. I gave each about a half a gallon and barely got any run off. I’ll water everybother and just up my nutes next time see how it goes. When should I Start using bloom nutes? I’m using the flora gro right now weeks 3 and 4...

Google H3ads modified lucas formula for coco. Or just Lucas formula for soil. Its all you ever need for growing with GH. You do not even need Grow bottle as with these 2 formulas the Micro bottle and Bloom at these ratios have plenty N in the for veg. You use the same feeding the WHOLE grow.
