Seedling leaf problem

So I've sprouted a freebie that I got from an order, Money Bush by Heavyweight Seeds and it sprouted fine but growth has been slow for 2 weeks and I'm chalking that up to roots before shoots. My issue is that the first true set of leaves and the second set that came in have slightly curled downward and I don't know why.

I'm not overwatering, I water it and then let the soil dry out before I water again. My light is 18" above the plant, its been a little hot in the grow room, maybe heat stress related?? Or possibly a N deficiency?

Any kind of help would be appreciated.

first off you don't need nutes this young.. those tiny circular leaves have nutes in them for the sprout. i'm with BF.. whats your pH of the soil and the water?

The cotelydons? Lol. One of them wasn't green when sprouted. It was almost as if the hull of the shell came off too early. The other leaf was green though.

I'm just using regular base soil. Started it in a Jiffy seedling pod thing. And just transplanted the whole pod into a solo cup with old MG soil. It'll end up being in my Supersoil in a 7 gal smartpot when all is said and done.

I'm using tap water but letting it sit for 24hours before use. I just actually found my PH meter the other day in my garage and when I put it in the soil, it read 1, when it should be neutral, correct? Maybe too acidic? And should I switch up to distilled water? I've always used tap water and never had issues.

I'm at work right now, but as soon as I get back home [in about 2 1/2hrs], I'll recheck the PH again to solidify what I read the first time and I'll check the PH of my tap water as well.

How often do you water? Don't used distilled.. it has no nutrients in it..
Classic leaf tips and droop of over watering..

I watered this morning and only because it was just about bone dry. Maybe every other day. It's in a small container right now, so the soil dries pretty quick.

If it's not water then It has to be a ph problem.. unless .. could it be under watered? Trying to cover all bases...

I'm leaving work now to head home. I'll double check the PH of the soil and water out of the faucet and report back.

Alright. Sorry about being late to get back about it, had to run some errands last minute.

Water PH is 7.5
And soil is 8

I was looking at the wrong section on my PH tester. It measures PH, lumens, and moisture.

Any ideas? And like I've said, I water them when needed and never over water.

I have just started some seedlings off and I wasn't happy for the first few days although they shot up I didn't think something was right

I would make a mix up ph to 5.8 check again a few minutes later still 5.8 then I check again anywhere between 7 hours to 24 hours and it kept shooting back up to 6.2 6.4

A couple of experienced members on here explained about how some of the materials used in the process of cleaning out water has a influence on ph plus minerals that are present need to be taken into account

I now warm up my water 22 hours prior to making a mix and also place a air stone in at the same time

I then proceed to make a mix up and I wait her ph to 5.8 and wait for the increase and bring it back down

Or ph to around 5.4 then it will rise to 5.8
5.9 maximum

These figures won't be 100% for yourself as you will have different water supplier .

And just to note

Really every grower should have a reasonable ph pen and ec pen don't scrape on money and buy some Chinese shit the shops also stock.

Also all necessary ph calibration liquids
And after care

A lot of problems can simpally diagnosed by doing everything by the book as the saying goes...

Hope this helps

Have you recently calibrated your ph pen
And do you trust your pen

You can check your run off ph
As for checking the soil cannas website offers information on sampling soil ph

I have used shit pens in the past like the one shown here you might as well not even use one for what they are worth

I mean if it dies then so be it, like I said, it's a freebie. I'd like to keep it going though if I can help it.

It is quite hard to kill a plant really
It's normally something very unregular you will have changed to kill them

But I believe seeds and seedlings in general are that little bit more temperamental like any young things in life
The first few days, months, years of anythings life are crusial keep an eye on it maybe measure it to keep track on it

And you could always check your ph pen in something like vinigar etc to check if it's giving the correct reading

Just google any liquids u may have to check what ph they typically are as long as it doesn't damage it

You need to get the ph down to 6.5 in soil.. with 7.5 water you're going to have to mix up your nutes then
use some ph down to get it balanced... for now just ph some water to 6.0 and water..

So, I've been doing everything exactly as I have been, since 2 days after I posted my initial photo of the plant it has had some growth and the yellowing hasn't persisted. I'll still keep an eye on it as it grows and see, but I'm really thinking it's a lack of initial Nitrogen from only having one cotyledon out of the shell. It then started pretty much feeding on itself to continue growth. Just my theory. I'll keep you posted.

The photo is from this past Thursday.

It's looking a lot better... and it may well be getting hungry. 1/4 strength nutes ph to 6.0.. about a cup should work..

She's steadily getting bigger with no problems. I'm going to end up scrogging her, just waiting for her to get bigger. Her leaves are fattening up too, digging the indica pheno.
