Seedling Leaves Yellowing... Please help!

Hello and thank you in advance for any advice given... This is my first time growing, so sorry if this question seems obvious, but I'm not sure what to do!

This seedling is about 2 weeks old, and from what I can tell has been growing rather slowly. The leaves began to yellow yesterday and are now turning brown. The two Cotyledon are fine, but the new leaves are yellowing/browning on the tips. I've already lost some seedlings prior to this one, so I'm really nervous about it's well being!

Currently I have it under one 42w cfl, 20 hours on 4 hours off. During that time I also have an oscillating fan going. The temperature has stabilized at around 78F and humidity level is about 40%. I recently transplanted this one into Fox Farm Ocean Forest Potting soil. I was using tap water that had been left to sit for a few days but I switched to distilled water.

By the way, my apologies for the poor quality of the photo... My camera is not the greatest! :(

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it would be most appreciated!

you said you recently transplanted it, does that mean you germinated it in paper towels and just put it in soil, or did actually transplant the seedling after it broke ground? Because if you moved it so soon after it broke ground then you may have shocked it. It is really young for a transplant in this way. If you are sure the temp is staying at 78 and not yet using nutrients then that might be the cause. Other than that, I have never used Fox Farms soil, I have read in these forums though that it is quite hot (packed with nutes) so maybe the soil itself is too strong for your young plant.

one more thing to add, your soil looks rather dense, did you mix in any extra perlite? Check out other people's pics of soil grows, it always looks like 40% white stones. Well drained/aerated soil is essential.

i did a sail gorw, the best nuted up soil is john innes no2, even though i used no3 last grow its amazing, just feed ur plants 3/4 of directed nutes and you wont go ron but only give nuts when plant is atleast 4 inches tall when using that soil

It was germinated in a kit that I purchased from the same place that sold the seeds. The kit has you start out in a dirt mixture, so I had to move it to a larger pot after it out grew that medium. If it is shock from the transplant, is there anything I can do to help it?
And no extra perlite was added... that's the amount that was in the soil when I purchased it.

Yo... i think it's nute burn from the hot soil. notice the tip of the leaves look burnt light brown. if it's gray then it's deficiency. think the soil might be hot. but im pretty sure it's nute burn. its on the tip of your cotyledons also. don't know what to tell ya. next time transplant it into happy frog or light warrior with 1/4 strength nutes.
if you had the same problems with your other plants and they died i say take it out of the soil and transplant it into a seedling soil.
it's not cuz of the heat or soil being wet.. the soil is hot and your seedlings are too young to handle. some seedlings can and some can't. don't take the risk. start with happy frog then move your way up to ffof. but happy frog might require to use 1/4 strength nute but since yours is nute burn i would just wait few days. seaweed helps with shocks and roots. but you gotta use very little of the stuff cuz it seems concentrated. couple drops of seaweed per gallon should help.

Do not give a seedling nutrients at all for the first 3 to 4 weeks ffof is hot soil go find a small bag of potting mix with no fertilizer in it just for seedlings. and that little water drop on the leaf will act like a magnifying glass and fry it also

This magnifying effect is actually not true and was debunked by Hungarian scientists two years ago; both in theory and in practice. The two reasons water cannot act as a magnifying lens is firstly, it doesn't have the right focal length - it would only scorch something behind the leaf (if the rays were to pass through!) and secondly the refractive index of water is way less suitable than glass. I mention this as some growers do get unnecessarily paranoid about this.

I had the same problem now plants are coming back to normal. I mixed half seedling soil and half ffof now they finally settled in. It's was just an experiment grow. Soil was too hot for these strains. I have done same thing with other strains and it was fine.

I see this all the time from growers using FFOF soil. I think it's a little too hot for a seed starting mix.

This exact same thing is happening to mine right now and I'm literally doing everything the exact same way that you did.. Were you able to fix the problem? Do you remember what you did to fix it? I don't want to lose them and I'd appreciate any input you have on it
