Seedling questions

Hello,
I have three unidentified seeds which i got free with a purchase from http://www.amsterdammarijuanaseeds.com/ and i recently germinated them and now i have Three Seedlings in rockwool, unfortunately no camera so no pictures but my problem i will try to describe... the seedlings have a 10 to 15mm stalk with one set of the round seedling leaves on top and the beginnings of the emerging familiar jagged leaves protuding at 90 degrees to these.. which has taken 24 hours to occur under 16hrs of artificial light ie. 11 watt softlight cfl, and 6 hours of natural sunlight at room temperature... so now i have placed these in 1 litre pots with a rockwool core and a gravel base and ballast to hold the developing plant. i have then watered with a nutrient solution and placed a small PET plactic dome to create a humid envionment and placed my three plants under a 250 watt metal halide lamp!!!

So thats my situation and now my question??? is the lamp too strong for my tiny plants???? or should i continue with the 11 watt cfl and natural sunlight until they are stronger?? Anyone with some insight or knowledge Please Help....

My personal opinion would be to use the 250w MH 18 hrs a day. Don't keep the light too close at this point (maybe 12-18" away) and be careful with the nutes at this point. I think this (along with excess watering) is the biggest mistake the newbies make.

Hope this helps

Thanks
The light is almost a metre away and the rockwool is soaked but the nutrients is very dilute at the moment, so i should continue with the metal halide and ease up on the watering and be patient... i used canna Aqua Vega nutrients 1.5ml of A and 1.5ml of B mixed in 2 litres of water at a Ph of 5.5. :?

Not familiar with your nutes....I use GH 3 part but only 1 week in and then only at 1/2 strength. I try to maintain 5.8 ph. You didn't mention how you're going to grow....drip, aero, etc.

These are 8 days old.....

Cool,

Nice set up im going to try an ebb and flow procedure, using two containers similar to yours and then flower under a 400 watt hps lamp, my temperature is 25 degrees celsius, i have the containers and the lights and two timers but i have'nt any pumps or plumbing at the moment, im from ireland and there are'nt any specific hydroponic stores around so its pet shops and hardware stores for me, i bought my lights ballast and nutrients on a trip to france everything else i can probably source as and when i need, i think i'll manually feed for a couple of weeks and then start my auto flood and drain,

you dont need to put any light on the seedlings until you see green. keep them in the 1in rockwool moist , put a plastic cup over them to keep the moisture and humidity in. AS soon as u see them sprout green turn you hid lighting on.

Thanks dictate,
Thats what i've done, and they seem to be happy enough, so fingers crossed that they keep going as well as they are at the moment.

Good luck! I veg under (2) 400w MH and flower under (2) 400HPS & (1) 600w HPS. The only things I buy at the hydro store are my nutes, netpots and coco cubes. Everything else came from a pet store (Pumps, (air and water) airstones and tubing) and the local hardware store (tubs, timers, pvc, fittings, sprayers, etc.). I like aero systems myself. They're easy to make, cost very little and work like magic.

See why I needed to add the 600w HPS? They're going wild.:hump:

Thats a nice room,
What do you think? the max number of plants giving a reasonable yield under a 400 watt hps? My electricity bill might be expensive so im using Flood and Drain and again you recommend 18/6 rather than 24hr mh lighting? even at the beginning?

The difference between flood and drain and aeroponic (as far as electricity goes) is minimal. I have 3 250 gal/hr pumps and 3 air pumps running 24hrs. I'd bet that the electricity I use for those is 1/20th of what the lights use.
