Seedling slow

Hi, I am a first time grower learning how to grow. My plan is to plant 30 plants once I've learned how to grow.

I bought 100 seeds from Royal Queen seeds, the strain is Northern Light. And I bought these in shop.

As I am fairly new, I did not bother to look closely at the seeds in the shop and ask the owner this:

The package was sealed so I assumed all is good with the seeds, and perhaps it is but I noticed the seeds are very small... from what I can look on images online these seeds are almost half if not more size smaller, and the taproot on them come out very small two and a bit slower if you ask me.

Have I been sold bad seeds or is this normal? I've planted 1 plant (using a 100 w CLF) , this is just to learn how to germinate and get it to seedling phase while I wait for equipment to come, (I'm ordering 6 HPS lamps) but after 2-3 days nothing have poopped out... as this is just a temp plant Im learning with i opened the soil and looks like the taproot is growing however it was more "laying down" and the "top" was not pointing upward.

Any advice on a successful germination, and questions why it's being a bit slow would be apriciated

Some seeds are small but that doesn't mean they're bad. You might want to try Rapid Rooters to start your seeds. Soak in a weak bloom solution , squeeze out excess, put seeds in hole, tear off a small piece of RR to put over hole, and put in a drawer. I have nearly 100% success rate with this method.

Size doesn't matter. :hump:

Genetics mean everything. I seriously doubt you've been taken advantage of. Good news. I'd love to be in your situation with those seeds! Slow starts don't mean slow finishes.

Here's my advice....... Don't kill them with love. Here's what I mean. Water is good right? So then more water is better! Nutrients are good right? So then more is better! That thought will make you a plant murderer.

Whether or not you follow this advice, on your first grow you would be wise to plant the seedling, add the right amount of water, and then see what happens. Let's pretend it's a total failure. Well, then you know what is important the next time. But the fact is, if you put the seedling in good soil, don't love it too much but love it enough not to starve it (water included), you'll be happier than most people on this forum. Then small adjustments on the next grow will improve your results. The next time, you'll adjust a bit more and get even more of what you're looking for.

The worst enemy of any person who grows any kind of plant is a lack of patience.

Oh,and call me a troll but I'll bet you $1,000 you'll end up trying to get your plant to harvest. And good for you.

Patients is key that seed woulda fixed itself without intervention and when it does pop don't worry the shell will fall off itself patience will be the determining factor if your plants will make it to harvest

Thank you for your motivating and informative replies guys. Indeed it popped through the soil, even if I probably have done every mistake there is to do by now. So was nothing wrong with the seeds.

While I have your attention, for my actual harvest - like I mentioned I will be planning in the future grow a whole bunch of these under 6 x 600 w hps lamps in a tent... but Is there any budget way to start the seedlings? As in can I use the actual HPS lights from planting seed or will that burn the small leafs? If not.. what "budget" methods to getting them in vegetative state is there, any advice or links to follow would be apriciated.

Thanks for your reply, I have been looking for T5 roof lamps with 3 slots each that has 75 75 and 25 wat each, the cost of this would be insane high I assume to run 30 plants.. it would almost cost as much as a tent kit with 6 x 600 w hps... or how muh roughly watt would I need to get these up to the size where they can be in the "main room" ? Space is not a huge issue for me, but I'd hate to be wasting 1500$ or more just for the vegetative stage if i can sneak it in earlier into hps ... any thoughts or inputs are much apriciates.

Look into cob lights or quantum boards.

You only need a 1/2 inch or larger tap root to successfully move the seedling into dirt. Trick is to put them into soil that you have watered until the soil is able to form mudballs. Then when you put the seedling into the hole make sure to press the dirt around the seedling pretty firmly so the s'ling stays upright while the taproot grows out.

Good luck, BigSteve.
