Hi How are you doing today? the basic rule of thumb is if it burns the back of your hand it will burn them plants, I give seedling and extra hand width, until they have 2 sets of true leaves not water. then back of the hand every time. MD

Like MD said if it burns your hand it burns your plants but an average distance I'd put it at 3-5 inches away just depends on the intensity your light outputs since it's led you shouldn't deal with too much heat also have a fan constantly on moving air around your plants that helps strengthen the stem Hella fast I've never personally used led lights because I trust in HID lights lol to each their own light penetration is key to tight node growth and strong stocks to hold those fat buds experience helps and trail and error builds experience hope it works out

What's the general rule of thumb for the distance between LED grow lights and seedlings?
The light you use matters alot. My first led was a mars 900. Seedlings did well with about 20" of clearance. I use a diy cob rig now. Mature plants need 20". Seedlings grow great @30-36".

Led won't burn the back of your hand at any distance
