Seedlings and lighting

I currently have 2 seedlings that are about a week old. Yesterday i put 4 27w 5500k bulbs right next to them, as it looked like they were stretching up to my 250HPS, which is around 3 feet above them currently.

My question is do I want the HPS on when the seedlings are so young? Now that i have some CFLs within 2 inches surrounding the plant, my fears of stretching are slightly alleviated, but i was curious if i should be running the HPS along with the CFLs this early in the growth stage? If so, is 3 feet a decent height?

thanks in advance

For seedlings, I wouldn't bother using the HPS. It's not the ideal light spectrum and it's just going to run up your electric bill needlessly, unless maybe you had a shitload of seedlings. Use a mix of 6500k and 2700k bulbs for your seedling. If you use 2 of each, and they are all 23 watters, that should be enough light for one plant until it's probably 2 feet tall.

I just noticed, I somehow keep replying to your posts. :blsmoke: :)

Thanks for the responses. I have 4 27w 5500k on them now and will be doubling that today with a few 2700ks. Lowes had some 65w 2700s for 12$ a piece on clearance. Was thinkin of grabbing one of those, but wasn't sure if itd be overkill.
