Not a new grower, but took a few yrs off. Got 5 auto girl scout cookies. Put them in a cup of distilled water for about 15 hrs, none popped, but I read, you shouldn't keep them in there for over 24hrs. Took them out after 15, placed on damp paper towel in a bowl, kept it damp for 24 hrs. All 5 popped and had abut a 1/2" root. Ok time to plant in solo cup. Using jiffy seed starter. It's a real light powdery soil, I mixed a lot of peralite with it, because it seem to clump when watered. I gave all the back ground to avoid any questions. Here is where I'm at. planted in medium yesterday. Covered them with another solo cup misted with water to keep moist envirement they are coming out of soil today?? But they are laying down. a few are about 1/2" out of soil, but laying down. My thought is, give them light...lol I took off the covering cups and turned on my T5. it's about 2 ft above them. Now should I cover them with something clear to get light. I'm thinking for some reason in the past it was not good to have uncovered so soon. What would be the best approach?

Too wet...damping off fungus(google it for details) ...putting a cup over them traps all that moisture and they rot to death before they even get started.

why didn't you fill those cups to the top with soil. way to wet dry them out or they'll rot away. Did you do ANY research before starting these seeds? WTF.

Never soak or use a paper towel. Only stoners and fifth grade science class do that.

Put them in moist soil and wait. With autos put them directly in final container.

Cannabis has been growing for millennia and doesn't n33d your help. Its a seed. Grow it.

Also if you do germ them first put the tap root (pointy end) up. The tap root makes a u turn as it comes out.

i use a spray bottle to water mine ..... the 90 cent ones that you use for cleaning just a couple squirts daily ....seed starter holds insane amounts of moisture ..... damp not soaked is the key if its clumping its way too wet

distilled water is not your friend in soil btw ..... and just a random question did you cut holes in the bottoms of the cups for drainage ?

we haven't soaked seeds since the early 90s. Very old school method that doesn't really apply with today's fresh seeds. Cook the soil for two days which is once you have your soil mix, wet it throughly and allow it to sit for two days or so. Insert seed so the tap root goes downward, keep moist...2-4 days later you have a sprout. We've followed this method for close to 20 years and have over a 98% germination rate. only one seed in the past five years failed to germ. we track pretty much everything using an excel spreadsheet, plant date, sprout date, pre-veg, veg, transition, flowering, finishing week, nutrients added.

Soaking is a great way to drown your seeds.

I'm not the most experienced but this worked for me 100% of the time so far (only germed 3 seeds so not that great a percent indicator!)

I put seed in moist root riot cube. Put them in an electric propogater. Wait for them to break out. Then put then in smart pots with light mix soil that has been presoaked for 24 hours in ph water with a root supplement (I use voodoo juice). Have an 600w led in veg nearly 30 inches away. Don't water them again until medium goes dry.

Worked for me so far.

Started using excel to keep track too! Love an excel sheet!

it's important to use what works for you personally and track it also. helps for fine-tuning.

Wow, you could have said that not like a douche..

Not saying what you said isn't true, but I could pull apart your rude sentence and make it just as truthful and less mean lol. Nice people skills :)
