seedlings heat problem

Hi there,
This is my first hydro grow, and only my second grow. I germinated two seedlings in rockwool for about a week, and last night finally put them into a bubble bucket with hydroton & two cfl's hanging above them. I kept them about 4.5 inches away, believing that would be fine, since there was plenty of room to the ceiling for the heat to float away, but I was wrong.

This morning the end half of their leaves are a lighter color and hard.

Should I toss out these two seedlings and start over or do you think they'll be fine?

Thanks :)

It's bubbilicious - its not expensive, but it's just the week already invested into it ;-) I went ahead and put another into some rockwool and if it's ready before these do anything I'll just replace it with this one. thanks for your help!

Yeah, they look pretty bad. Are you sure it was the lights causing the problem? I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just making sure it isn't a nuteburn or PH problem, because it does resemble them.

Personally I would keep them in a humidity dome until I saw a bit more growth. You def want a fan blowing upwards to exhaust heat, and seedlings wont use a ton of light, so put some more distance between them for now.

If it were me I would trash those, even though it would pain me to do so.

I was taught that when planning your crop, you should only expect to get 3 healthy plants from every 10 seeds planted. You can be more optimistic if you have female seeds of course, but in general out of 10 seeds,

2-3 will not germ, 2-3 will be runts or too sick to grow, and half of whats left will be males.

So if I wanted to have two healthy plants to bud, and I didn't want to invest more time than I had to, I would germ 5-10 seeds.

how big do you let them get before you put them into the bubbler? They were about 3" tall when I did it, I figured that was enough. I had them only in wet rockwool inside a ziplock bag. Would you recommend another way? Next time I'm definitely going to plant more. The previous grow I did was soil, and while it was a mess, I did have very good luck as all three were female (from crappy bag seed, too. this time I went with bubbilicious from nirvana). My only issue is real estate... not much room to do this sort of thing. I'm limited to a 2x2x8 space... right now i'm using 5g buckets, next time maybe I'll switch to a 22g rubbermaid since it could hold more plants.

One of the babies looks to be recovering now. the other just looks stagnent, and will probably get tossed once the one in rockwool is ready (which brings me back to the first question... how big before I should move it?)

thanks for everyone's help on this...
