What kind of light is that? If it's MH (doesn't look like) then I'd recommend switching to CFL until they get a good week into seedling stage. If it is Florescent then it is nowhere near close enough to the top of the plants. Should be like 2 or 3 inches.

a good test is put the back of your hand under the light, move it until you can feel the heat building on your hand, thats how close the plants should be.

I don't understand this.... I have both CFLs and florescent tubes and neither get hot. I can put them right down close to the plants. What's the wattage on that light?

just use the method I told you it will get them exactly where you want em, but you are going to have to move em as the plant grows prolly daily in fact.

Hard to believe that thing is putting off a lot of heat. Can you elevate the plants so that you can blow a fan upwards toward the light to help cool it? The light really has to be a lot closer then how you have it now.

I guess im over reacting... Ill put it back down to 3" from he top. Here is the pic again.
LOL.... well don't just take my word for it.... if you think it's too hot then put your hand on top of the plants..... the light should not be uncomfortable on your skin. If it is, then you are right it's too hot.

If it is too hot that close then I'd suggest switching to a few CFLs instead.... those can easily sit that close to the plants.
