Seeds and germantion

Hello, this will be my 2nd time growing but im having a few problems to start.
How long do seeds last? I am a dro seed collector and have had some for 2 years now.
Also, is there any better way to germinate seeds then the paper towel method?

Any help would b much appreciated. thanks

I've read that they can be kept for up to 10 years, if kept in a cool dry place, but the longer you keep them the lower the germination rate will be. I don't think 2 year old seeds should have too much problems, as long as they were stored properly.

Also, the best way to germinate is straight in the soil, IMO.

Paper towels all the time, all the way

i always use the paper towel method, works 99 percent of the time. you could also use the water method where you use a shot glass or whatever then put them in and let em do their job but i do believe it they dont sink after a day or two they might not be good..

i read something recently that stated most paper towels (white ones at least) have bleach and other chemicals in them that may not be the best for the seeds. apparently scotts shop towels don't use added chemicals..

Straight in the soil also saves you a step, where you don't have to transfer the seedling to the soil, where you can possible damage or contaminate it. Why go through the extra work?

1. Put seed in soil.
2. Water.
3. Wait.

I've had lots of plant problems, by germinating was never one of them.
