Seeds..... Can you tell?

I wanted to have a conversation about seeds. Does the size, shape, and or color of a seed have anything to do with its gentetics or strain? For the most part all seeds look pretty much the same but i do run across some seeds that look much defferent. The pic is some seeds that i snagged from some pretty good schwag. There are 2 types of seeds; one is a light colored seed with stripes and the other is a darker color seed that seems to be run of the mill. Like i said above, both smoke was pretty good for schwag. So... what do you guys think? I want to be educated

do your homework if you would like to be educated. do you really think anyone can tell what kind of weed your seeds will grow think about it

yah, i probably have thousands of seeds, and if i took them out of all there breeders packs and dumped them all in a lil pile on my table, i'd be hard pressed to be able to figure out which ones go back in what packs, lol...
it sure would be nice if it worked that way though.. or to be able to tell how much a plant would yield before you germ it, or even the sex of the seed would be awesome to know ahead of time..

Thanks for obviousness........the way i wrote the question is with the perspective that you cant tell what you get from the looks of a seed. But you cant ignore that some seed are visually significant than others. And as far as doing my homework.....i think thats what i am doing at the moment.

I just don't understand the whole breeding genetics process..... i've had the same seeds that turn out to be totally diff plants theres looks shapes and smells are not even close the same and it was 2 Cloud #9's grown outdoors they where free with my order and they where just totally diff

Genetics definitely control seed shape, size, and pattern. Some strains have smaller seeds, some larger, some with stripes, some with dots, some with very little pattern. For the most part the same genetics will maintain these same traits. My Goo has huge seeds, every time i cross it huge massive seeds. Some of the other strains have tiny seeds, every time, over and over. Of course genetics dictates this. There however are other things that can change seeds as well such as how mature they when the plant was cut and of course how well the plant was taken care of (if i took shit care of a seeded goo I might get tiny seeds - this is not the genetics being expressed but the amount of energy the plant had available to create the seed).

Some of the best plants come from the smallest seeds.

As far as I've read shell casings have nothing to do with genetics. Its what is inside that counts.
Thank you.... thats the kind of response that i thought i would get and appreciate. I just didn't know if someone has had the time, energy, and resources to identify seeds by certain markings on their casing. especially if certain stains produced unique markings

No two plants are alike. There are many different phenotypes in all seeds. There are dominant and recessive genes and when plants are inbred it refines genes.

All the seeds I've ever seen look about the same. Aren't many really things that can be defined on a casing. If you know the genetics than the casing is irrelevant.

Thank for the info.....the part of me that wanted to ask said question; thought that certain strain could have the genetic ability to show a particular mark.

marking patterns can be similar but you will never see a bunch of seeds with all identical marking. There will always be slight variation. I have however seem seens that were almost completely black (well really dark brown) - and most all of them were like this but still varied in other ways.

You can tell a bit about grow patterns and leaf structure - sativas stretch and have thin leaves and idicas the opposite... Most strains out there are a hybrid so best you can do is guess on dominance. There are definitely a few strains that are different enough to identify by appearance and taste. Many of the original purples can be identified by taste even if not grown to be purple. Blue dream is pretty identifiable. Kush's are pretty identifiable as well but good luck on what particular kush you are smoking. I can generally spot goo and headband with some level of certainty.

Good chance what you are growing is an unknown hybrid of some sort though.

I got some freaky seeds in a bag of uncompressed weed from Mexico last year Ive been saving. (Danky beautifull bud I swear to god 100$ a 1/4oz.)
They are HUGE, big as peas. Im not shitting.
The seedling had the widest fan leafs ive ever seen. Didnt seem like much sativa in her.
Like 1 inch long an 2 inches wide.
But she got eaten outdoors last year, dam

I thought seeds were seeds, tell i seen them.

Well as soon as i get done with my current grow I will keep you guys up to date on the "tiger striped" seeds. Kinda curious to see what they produce.
