Seeking info on Reverse Osmosis Systems Hello all. I am seeking out info on RO systems. I have a very PPM on tap and have dealt with it for a long time. I am thinking of getting a RO system after this harvest and see if it does not make life a lil easier.

I have a 55 gal flower res and a 25 gal veg res. They drink about 5 Gal every three days. How do I go about finding some DECENT systems ? I dont really want to spend a TON buuuut I dont wanna buy a pos either. Also how does one pick the proper GPD for this ? Thanks

I was looking into this as well and what I found is that the systems are basically the same as a glacier water system? The home depot ones that use a reverse osmosis filter will undoubtedly also have charcoal filters and sediment filters, the basic filters. The problem I was concerned about is that the output on those home systems from home depot say they can purify upto 10 gallons per day. If you have them, maybe you've noticed the same on those brita filters that hook up to a faucet when you swich on the filter the flow slows down. I am concerned about the quality of purification for filling an entire rez system. Would the purification be less effective if I was topping off a 30 gl rez in one sitting, it would be retarded to only be able to fill my rez part of the way each day. I've opted to just use glacier water in my system I'm currently designing, I got some 5 gl jugs from home depot. And I'll invest in a RO system after I have the money for the ec/ph monitors also.
I know I didn't totally answer your question but if you want to try it out glacier jugs might be the way to go.

the waste factor on ro systems is at least 3-1. so for every gallon you get you throw 3 down the drain. Stopped using ro and went to aquasana. best shit out there right now and it can handle your whole house. www.aquasana.com chech em out. WELL WORTH IT!!!

The aquasna leaves some mineral content, and if you're anal about your nutrient mixes, this will throw off your tds slightly. RO filters do make waste, but at $.007per gallon from my water company, i'm not really worried about it. The link for the RO system a few posts up is about what I paid for mine from a different company. and the gallons per day is as simple as it sounds, it can make that much water in a day. the holding tank is usually about 4-5 gallons itself so unless you have a HUGE grow, any RO will do.
