Selling pheno hunted clones

I sent a clone I hunted to a trusted friend last year as a gift. He recently contacted me saying that his old boss who owns a nursery wants to "propagate" it. He sold a few trays of clones last year and wants to keep it in his rotation. They kindly asked if I was tying to keep the strain under wraps or what. I told them I didn't breed it, and they could grow all they want, but if he wants to sell clones I should probably get paid at least the cost of the seed pack. They ended up sending me twice that much.

So I was quite pleased with this. I've been wanting to launch a seed company for years, but I won't do it unless I have something truly exceptional and unique. So far I'm still working at it. I won't just F1 two current breeders gear and sell it as my own. Anyway this gave me the idea to launch a high end clone site like King Kong clones.

This is what I do. I've been pheno hunting for years, and it was really nice to get paid for it for once. I'd like to continue on this path and hopefully work together with some breeders instead of trying to compete with them. There are several new seed companies every week now, clones are definitely a less crowded field.

The reason I'm posting this is, I want to know breeders feelings about people who buy their seeds selling clones of them. I would sell the clones for at least twice what the seed packs cost so people would still buy seeds from the breeder. Or is this wrong headed? Should I only sell my own crosses? I know a lot of people feel that once you buy the seeds you can do what you want with them. Indeed, legally there is nothing a breeder can do without a patent. I'm not looking to do a scorched earth policy here though and upset every breeder I buy seeds from, so I'm asking. I PM'd one breeder on IG but got no reply. He's new and probably thought I was an Instagram cop or something. So I'm posting it here, what do y'all think?
King Kong clones is a name already being used, so I wouldn’t use that name.

Been following your thread, hope your dream comes true bud...stay at it. Look at how many of us look for those 90s stank herb mothers...go forth and create the clone only strain we all want 20-30yrs from now

Thank you for the encouragement. There are so many talented breeders out there with access to exclusive genetics, don't know if I'll be able to live up to that legendary status, but I'll try. I just want to do quality work pheno hunting, breeding and selling clones, and if I could start to whittle down some of this credit card debt that would be nice.

I started a Pheno Phactory account on Strainly, thanks again spliffendz and Mulder. I'll buy a few clones or seed packs on there to get started.

Good post, in my opinion, when weed gets legalized, Philip Morris will take over. Dispensary and private breeders and Growers will not be able to compete. How many people are still around growing their own tobacco?
true. look at garden center veggies for the nextdirection. supermarket shelfs. I would like to say more but not in the current environement or state regulations. another time maybe

How can a get a few cuts from these?
I'm on Strainly now as Cali Worthington. I'll put a list of strains on my profile, and list some affordable seeds soon.

I only have a handful of strains right now, but I've bought a lot of seeds and a few clones to breed with lately. I feel like I learned from the last few crosses I made, looking forward to the next round.

Do you have anything suited for outdoors?

I have a ((Wedding Cake F2 x Jungle Cake)F2) cut that will do great outdoors. It's medium-tall in height, and has dense, frosty nugs with medium-high yield. The flavor is a perfect blend of sweet, piney and citrus, way less doughy than the breeder cut. Here it is.

And here is an outdoor plant a friend grew from the same seed batch the above cutting came from.

How much for a couple clones off that? How can I contact you privately?
The best way is for you to start a Strainly account and send me a message there.

I started this thread to gather information, it never occurred to me to sell anything through RIU. That lead me to Strainly which is pretty cool. I had no idea so many people were selling and trading clones and seeds, even pollen.

Unless it's way more expensive than I think, I'll probably get a small banner ad here that links to my Strainly page soon. I need a real logo and artwork first, though.

Well, your plants are probably nicer than 90%+ of what you can find on strainly, plus people know you from here, so I think you're likely to get a lot of interest from people here too. Good luck!!

I started an account but it's not giving me the option to send you a message?

Thank you! A friend on here said I just call the Strainly page Cali Worthington so people know it's me. I'm still thinking about it.

It's kind of a joke name, though. Cal Worthington was a used car salesman who was famous for his commercials where he would hang out with lions, tigers, and of course his dog, Spot. He had a young, gold digger wife when he died. I wouldn't put it past her to issue a cease-and-desist order if I became a successful company under that name. It's unlikely I'll ever cross her radar, though.

Oh man, I remember the Cal Worthington commercials from waaay back, maybe early 80's? They're like an American cultural legacy or something!
