Naw, that's not the job I was alluding to at all. I DID lay asphalt when I was 18 years old though. Yep, that was my day job. After working 8 hours on the graveyard shift working on an assembly line at an aircraft plant shooting rivets all night, I worked 8 hours spreading asphalt during the day. The spreading wasn't so bad, except for the burning through the soles of my shoes. The tough part was using the tamp to tamp around the edges of buildings. I don't know how heavy that damned tamp was, but it was a bitch after a couple of hours. Oh, the asphalt job paid $15 for an eight hour day.Last of the hard jobs, let me guess, spreading asphalt. I've known a couple of asphalt guys, outside of the heat, the machines do most of the hard work, All they do is stand around with a little asphault rake and smooth out the imperfections. Ya wanta know a real hard job, tying steel. Yeah, I did that also. Try bending over all day with a pair of pliers and a roll of ty-wire on your belt, lacing rebar together, when the day is over, you cant stand up straight for 20-30 minutes. Try muscling #6 bar all day for bridge abutments. or tying vertical walls. Yes son, there are harder jobs than asphalt. Do you know what a 20 ft. section of # 8 rebar weighs?
