I dont think its so much about starting inside or outside, but its not good to take a plant that has been growing indoors and taking it outside and putting it in the mid summer sun especially when its 100 degrees. It can be done but it needs to be done gradually. High risk of bringing bugs into your indoor garden.

Yo stupid fuck. I start my seedlings outside. Natural sunlight is the best. Keep them outside for good airflow for a few hours and bring them back inside and put them in my window. Grow way better then when I start them under my cfls.
no piks bro its cause u looked at mine and u said shit cant argue with that ha....just dont give advice until uve brought an indoor seedling outside...and it might work better then ur shitty cfls but for a plant starting out no it does not it does alot of stretching when thier outside thatd y the pros start thier plants inside and when thier a bush they put them outside im not saying artificial light is better of course the sun is better but not in this case

Fwiw, there's a huge difference between starting a seedling outside and starting it inside and moving it outside. Plants quickly start becoming acclimated to their environment (whatever that may be). Its the same reason why you can start one outside and then take it in and your growth slows. I think the sun is like 9.8x10⁴⁴ watts, but I'd have to check with the creator on that one.

I know the best distance for optimum lumens for plants is about 93 million miles.

Sorry kind of stoned and didn't explain well. I've seen them started outside fine, but start it inside and take it out and its liable to cook.

ok, im only going to say this once. i start all my plants inside and then they are moved outside once they have a nice rootball, that doesnt mean that starting plants outside is worse or unacceptable. to say so is just ignorant and by the way you type your posts that what i can see that you are..

IM ONLY GOING TO SAY THIS ONCE. knock off the bullshit maryj...i thought i was pretty nice and fair between both of you, to sit here and call my names and stupid is NOT your best idea....lets face it. when you call someone a newb YOU shouldnt be here for only a month, it makes your posts seem like welll....a joke...ive been here for 5 or so years give or take, so I think I know what im doing..You can ask anyone here, im a very nice person and probably one of the nicest mods on this forum you will come across BUT

Do not mistake my kindness for weakness, I can make your life here very shitty...and by talking to me the way you are you havent gotten exactly off on the right foot with me, meaning you havent gotten off on the right foot with ANY staff, because trust me, when i make a thread about how much of a dick your being in the staff forum, ALL eyes will be on you...But we dont have to play these childish games right? lets just start over....my name is alaskanight3. u can call me aknight...please dont call people names and be nasty to them because they oppose your way of starting seedlings, its just silly you little rabbit. have a good day and I hope i dont have to come back to this thread to read more childish and mean posts. lets just be friends, it IS best for all of us. thanks :) peace :peace:

Where I live its not in Texas so I don't have 100 degree whether. Like I said I start them outside in the beggining of day then bring them in. Only a few hrs of direct sunlight outside. Then I keep them in my window for the remainder of the day. Do this until 2 sets of leaves. Then they go into vegging closet. This method has worked the best for me and I've had %100 germination with my seeds and %100 of them stayed alive. This is my way of doing it and works well for me.

Superthrive is basically snake oil...the whole "B vitamins reduce shock" is bullshit..best thing to do is let it dry out like others have suggested. Most the time with plants, doing less is doin more.

I have been moving plants in and out for decades.
If you start a plant under a wimpy CFL, I would not put it in direct sunlight right away. Place it in a location where it gets indirect sun for a few hours.
Check it and if it looks unfazed, go ahead and put it in direct sun...it will thank you.
If you start under HIDS or even T-5s, put it right out in direct sun.
If any grower has access to full sun outdoors...IMO it is foolish not to maximize it's benefits.

EDIT
I HAVE NEVER GROWN IN AMBIENT TEMPS ABOVE 100F!!!
Mid to low 90s for weeks, but never triple digits!!,

Wavels, I'm with you on that 100%. If you can use the sun why not? It'll save you money on your electric bill, give your plants UVB and other spectrums you HID's or T5's are lacking, and it's what the plants prefer.
