Is this just a thing people say to inexperienced cannabis growers or do people actually boil their roots when harvest comes ? I've read one site say it shocks them to do some kind of extra growing while hanging during the drying session but I don't know I think it's just a troll

I know some old school growers that boiled there roots. But that was back in the 80's. I don't remember why. Some sort of shock. We needed any advantages we could get back then.lol

So: yes it is a real thing

I am going to try it on a plant...it is throwing nanners and it has been getting nutrients steadily with no flushing at all..I heard that once the roots die ( effectively killing the plant)it will canabilze itself and use all the energy stored in the leaves...we will see.ill post pics tomorrow.

Hmm I know You can ferment the plant the last 10 days or so. Submerge the roots completely in water (no air). It's supposed to bring all the sugars to the buds or something. And the shock of no functioning roots may or may not increase resin. I read this a while ago and need to study it again. I attempted this with an autoflower last year; I failed to keep the pot submerged. The bud was good but who knows if it helped

Now I can't try this cause I use 35 gal. pots. So if someone wants to have 3 clones, 1 for control, 1 for boiling, and/or 1 for fermenting, we could see what works.

At this point, I'd rather not anyways, I think what you do over the whole flowering process is what matters. A few days of stress at the end would only promote minimal gains

There likely are medicinal benefits from the consumption of cannabis roots. But that's different than the original topic of this thread regarding the bro science of boiling the roots to force the resins into the buds which is nonsense and has been around for decades but only done by new growers that don't know any better.

The history of using cannabis root for medicinal purposes goes back thousands of years.

"In the first century, Pliny the Elder described in Natural Histories that a decoction of the root in water could be used to relieve stiffness in the joints, gout, and related conditions. By the 17th century, various herbalists were recommending cannabis root to treat inflammation, joint pain, gout, and other conditions."

I might start experimenting using cannabis root for medicinal purposes instead of tossing them in the compost. Specifically for my joints that after decades of use and abuse are starting to act up now and then. Hiking, wakeboarding, weight lifting, etc... My knees sometimes let me know how I've abused them over the years. I refuse to take pharmaceutical remedies prescribed by a doctor or even over the counter pain medications. I instead choose to use natural remedies such as turmeric, ginger, green tea, garlic, etc... I think the years of dietary remedies has been beneficial. Much more so than a temporary solution through the use of daily pills for pain that many have become accustomed to.

Pretty sure there are compounds, just not from opportunists looking for page counts and hits from weed sites.
Piggybacking on BroScience is probably bad marketing strategy anyway.

I have tried a process that @RM3 uses...pouring boiling water into the pot before harvesting

This process basically kills the plant instantly, which does impact the drying process and the flavour profile of the dried product.

As for boiling the roots....I don't think that would do anything to speak of over and above just pouring boiling water in the pot before cutting down.
