This story is impossible to parody. There is something terribly wrong with our society when authorities can't (or won't) exercise common sense when dealing with children.

A Pennsylvania 7-year-old was suspended and faces possible expulsion after accidentally bringing a toy gun to school, despite turning himself in.

Mathabel says the administration had her pick her son up early on Wednesday and told her not to bring him back to school the next day. However, she disagreed and sent Darin back to Martin Elementary on Thursday. “I got a phone call from the principal at about 9 a.m., and she said, ‘Darin is not to be in school,’ said Mathabel. “I said, ‘Well, I'm sending him to school because he is entitled to be in school and be educated.’” That day, the boy was placed in the office and given in-school suspension. Darin’s father, Chris Simak, disagrees with the suspension and told the paper, “What was he supposed to do?...Just hide it and keep it in his bag so he doesn't get in trouble?”

this sort of shit is so beyond retarded though, i saw this as it's a local story for me, pretty speechless tbh.. just glad i'm not a kid today..

we have a litigious society..even sexual harassment can be something on your computer at work in your office (or cubbie) not for anyone to see, however if they see it and find it disturbing?..we have a very litigious society..oh wait..

yes it does..it has everything to do with it..you have to remove the offending from the situation..if not, something happens and board of ed is on the hook.

Skylard, did you read the article?

The proper response to this would have been the principle to take the toy gun and give it back to the little boy at the end of the day and to tell him to be sure not to bring it to school again. Even this response is a little bit stupid for a TOY gun.

My compliments. You are able to see some issues and respond outside your "team".

This really isn't a 2A issue, though. This is simple common sense. You don't suspend/expel a 7 year old child for a simple mistake.

Zero tolerance leads to zero intelligence.

i completely agree, not really a 2a scenario, and definitely more common sense, or lack there of.. sad really..
