Maybe next time DARE Officer Gump with his rootin' tootin' IQ of 80 will see the toy gun in a child's hand and shoot the poor SOB, leaving the school on the hook for a huge lawsuit because they didn't enforce the rules about toy guns. It could have been prevented!

Are you saying that the boy should be suspended for at least a year like the handbook says?
Why wouldn't taking the gun away and mentioning it to the parents be enough?

He is facing expulsion, not expelled. Obviously expulsion should be saved for a child who took a toy gun to school and was purposely brandishing it and threatening other students with it. He will probably be suspended for a day or two to set an example for the other children.

It says "the school district shall expel for a period of not less than one (1) year any student who violates this weapon policy". This includes bringing weapons and replicas of weapons to school. And you say I am the dum dum?

I didn't read anywhere that it said he was brandishing it or threatening anyone with it. Seems like once he noticed it was in his bag, he tried to turn it in to the teacher. I don't think the kid should be punished for being honest. These schools are getting pretty strange nowadays. The kid might be better off being home schooled for a year.

So it is not as if this is the first time the child has been in trouble.
