Several LED'S vs. MH + HPS Together?

Alright, so I plan on building a decent sized grow room. Planning on spending around $15k for lights, CO2, air conditioner, etc. One of the biggest things I keep researching and going over in my head is the types of lights to use. I first thought of just using a couple 1,000w HPS's, then I thought of mixing a 1,000w MH with mayyybe 2 1,000w HPS's. Now I'm reading more about LED's and they seem to have a lot going for them as well.

A few things will possibly factor into helping with my decision. I'm hoping for a constant 60-80dayish harvest. I wouldn't be able to grow my plants too tall so I would just start my 12/12 on and off sooner. I'm planning on having at max 40-60 plants growing.

I've seen a crapload of vids on HPS's beating LED's, but I've also seen several vids of the opposite including: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxPvN9ke2Xg which seems very enticing. I know that there are a lot of people who have tried LED's and have been unsuccessful but the newer LED's seem like they might be even better than HID's..even though it's just the website talking. The website I'm really looking at for LED's is: http://www.prosourceworldwide.com/default.asp

If I did decide to go with the LED's, really not sure on if 2-3 of the 350w ones would be better as they say it is the same output as a 1,000w HID (NOT relative in lumens however), or if 6-10 of the 180w ones (about 600w output of a HID) would be better.

Money isn't really a factor at my startup, but in the longrun electricity-wise the LED's would save me a lottt. Just looking for your opinions on what you think would be the best situation. Which do you think would get the most in yield? <- biggest question

There are just so many pros and cons to both. LED's you can switch between blue and red spectrums..although I could always just do MH and HPS's. LED's would save countless amounts of money in the long run, and would be less detectable by authorities, where HID's are expensive to run, would need a really decent air conditioning system, and have to be replaced significantly more often. HID's however are a 'guarantee' that I would get great bud with a decent settup.

If going purely for amount of yield I think I would go with HID's just because of there performance record, but even if LED's are relatively close I could make so much more because of all the saving costs.

Really stuck on this one and any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated :]

Going with the best of technology is the smartest choice. You would save lots of money on electricity and will not need an AC and blowers/ducting. CO2 system wouldn't go to waste since this setup lends itself to a sealed room. I'd suggest going with Advanced LED's - diamond series lights, they are the best on the market and cost much less per watt than the website you mentioned. The ideal setup would include 400W advanced diamond LED's and Gavita pro 300 LEP's. Yield for each led and lep lights is equivalent to a 1000 watt HPS setup. Upfront cost is hefty but you wont have to replace any lights for 5plus years and save a bunch on running them.

Plenty of good grow threads show casing these lights. Check them out:

Well you DEFINITELY changed my mind lol. After reading several of the journals on the Diamond Series I am hooked. This is definitely what I want to go with. Thank you very very much for helping me with this :]

I too thank you for the heads up. Not that I have any money to run out and get it, but a Diamond series light is definitely next on my 'to purchase' list.

Advanced LED's product is on my "to buy list" also, but I wont be pulling the trigger right away. Still using a chinese red/blue 300 watt LED I got off ebay a couple years ago, expecting another 3 years out of it. Anyways, I've heard after the 50,000hr mark LEDs only loose about 40percent of their light intensity. Maybe by that time LUXIM's LEP technology will be the same price as high wattaged LED grow lights are now. FYI, LEDs produce the frostiest buds ever, you wont regret spending such a massive lump some when you see them buds. Plus they're super stealth, no heat signature to worry about, and they keep a grow room around 80-85F with no dedicated AC unit. House's central AC can keep everything at a steady 75F during summer time, winter time you might need to get more LEDs or some CFLs to keep the temps up. LED's on a light rail over a hydro system, you can't go wrong! Glad I could be of some assistance...

I have to disagree, I am almost certain the Penetrator-X pro lights are the undisputed leaders on market right now, but I went with the 357 Mag Plus lights which are arguably second best. You can switch the spectrum from red to blue to full spectrum for flowering. The red is pretty useless because you would just use the full spectrum for flowering, but the vegetative spectrum is great. You can watch my grow. I'm running two of the 357mags either as side lighting or adjacent to a 1000w HPS bulb and I'm scrogging my 4 plants.

I spared no expense with my setup and I must say that I spent dozens of hours researching LED lights. I almost made a HUGE mistake and I might as well have thrown my money away if I purchased an LED light from that un-established company. Advanced LED lights are definitely not bad, though. http://ledgrowlightsreview.org/
