Sexing

I am new to growing seeds. I have several seedlings growing. I am not sure how to go about sexing them? Should I clone them when they are large enough and put the clones into12/12 and remove the males? Can I put them into a 12/12 cycle imediately or do I have to wait until they are rooted? OR Can I simply put my seedlings (when they are large enough) into a 12/12 cycle for a week or so or until I can determine sex then revert them back into 18/6? Will this cause any problems? Will they go back into veg ok? Any sugestions please!!

Hi,

In my opinion, early sexing of plants is a waste of time and adds unneeded stress. Just wait until your plants are mature enough to start budding them. Once you are ready to bud them, flip your light cycle to the 12/12. Keep a vigilant eye out for males, and just watch the females grow!

Ok you can flower plants whenever u want to.Most people wait 1-2 months until they r of size or showing preflowers to flower their plants.Doing 12/12 from seed you will not yeild much u want to give it some time in veg under 18/6 or 24/0 then when your plants get a foot or you want to cut clones u can then flower the plants to determine the sex. When you put a plant to flower then switch it back to veg it shoudnt be a problem alot of people do it with good results but u can cause a female to hermi by stress.

Thanks! These are outdoor strains and I need to know the sex so I can clone the females before summer. Should I wait until the clones are rooted before I switch to 12/12 or can I switch right away?

wait until the clones r rooted so you can be sure u have plants to continue your strain.so that way if the clones dont make it the first go round u can try again. But if u know what u r doing when it comes to cloning then put it right to flower
