Shatter question

Hey guys,

So, I bought 2 grams of shatter off of a friend, who also bought it from one of their friends.

Now, when I smoke it, I totally, undoubtedly taste butane, and it makes my throat sore, and is all around nasty. I know it's not safe either, tasting like this.

My question is, how do I bleed all of the butane out of my shatter to make it smokable?

Like twitch said, winterizing the extraction would remove the butane. You dissolve said shatter into Everclear or iso, then place in the freezer 24-48 hours, filter with coffee filler, allow the solution to dry with the assistantance of a fan.

I sometimes just do a winterize without placing in the freezer, basically what I'm doing is getting rid of the butane but keeping the fats n lipids. It's a lazy thing I do lol

Are you certain that the off putting flavor is truly that of butane? Is the shatter hard at room temp?

When you say "smokable", by what method are you actually using? Vaping at an excessive temp will provide bad flavor and a long lasting, unpleasant aftertaste. If it doesn't taste like it smells, too hot.

Pyrolysis should be avoided in favor of vaping / dabbing.

Some parts are gooey and some parts are rock solid. I make shatter with everclear, but not in big amounts, and mine always tastes clean. This tastes how the butane for my torch smells. Very certain it's butane. But I'm using an oil rig, glass nail. It leaves a bitter aftertaste, usually my extracts are sweet. This guy sold us some nasty stuff lol.

If it's 2 grams of shatter its not worth winterizing.

Put it on parchment, heat up a griddle and move it back and forth over it to melt the grams.

If they react, keep going until turns back to clear shatter. If not then its something else.

Yeah, ethanol extracts are sweet, especially if there is residual ethanol present.

To me butane tastes like the air from the inside a butyl rubber inter tube smells. Mystery oil tastes the same to me, only pungently so.

In concentration, monoterpenes leave a bitter after taste and can be overpowering. Marginally purged oil may be rich in monoterpenes.

Usually those are diminished and toned down with an QWET extraction, because of losses evaporating or boiling off the alcohol.

As to salvage, I agree with putting it in a vacuum oven at 115F and -29.5" Hg vacuum, to see what happens. If it is under purged, you will soon see confirmation in the form of irregularly sized solvent and water bubbles.
