Question regarding my lions mane mushrooms...I have my bag and made my cut, but no mushrooms are forming and most mycelial expansion is occurring in another section of the bag. Should I make an opening in that area? I’ll take pictures tomorrow.

Also, when this bag is done, how do I inoculate another log with the remaining material?
it will abort the fruiting in the lower oxygen area most likely. what I like to do is open the bag before putting it in the fruiting chamber and rip off that top layer of mycelial growth. that way any primordia that may have formed are removed. Then the bag is folded over the block snugly to make sure there is no empty space in the bag. tape it so it stays folded over. Then poke holes in three of the sides of the block, or one large hole on the top of the block.

you can make an opening where the primordia is forming. it will grow towards the opening and fruit from there.

in order to inoculate another block, you need a sterile substrate. you also need a pure culture of the mycelium such as liquid culture or make a plate culture and allow it to fully colonize. i've never tried it, but you could try and transfer part of the interior of the block you are currently growing and aseptically transfer it to the new substrate. This needs to be done in a still air box or in a flow hood.

did you buy that block or did you make it yourself? it doesn't look very colonized to me in the picture.
Was gifted it through a club. I did remove a layer from the top after opening the bag originally and they’re continuing to form after folding it over and taping it. Should I do that again or just cut slits on the top?

yeah i would just cut the slits at the top then. they'll fruit from there no problem.

We were at the farmer's market yesterday and there was a mushroom booth. The grower there told my daughter to soak the block overnight and then let it dry out slowly in her bin. He says he gets three crops from his blocks.
that's what I've done with oyster mushrooms in the past. never tried it with shiitake. good strategy though.
