What I am looking to purchase for my first grow.. and many to come.. advice would be appreciated as I cant decide on a few things..

Gorilla, hyperfans, phresh or can filter, coco coir, I suggest using a powdered nutrient, like Jack's, Veg+Bloom, Floraflex, or the old Maxibloom. Good light choice. Use fabric pots the first couple rounds, combined with the coco and you should never be able to over water, thus avoiding the biggest rookie mistake.

Doesnt matter. Pick gear. Read a lot. Practice growing.

And stick to the same method until successful. Too many blame products. Switch them an continue to fail.

I use sunlight supply products. The Grow store I used for my first Grow sold them.

My sun systems galaxy ballasts are still good on 4th year. My hyper fans still fine too.

But so are my hydrofarm active air inline fans.

All equipment has run perpetually the whole time.

Fabric Pots? Need to research into that.. What do you think about super soil.. I am from UK so dont know if I can find all those brands of nutes

Yes, fabric pots, ie smart pots, exactly as the name implies. Brand of nutrients isn't as important as your understanding of the how/why of the individual elements. I can't comment on super soil as I've grown exclusively with coco coir.

Not that you're not getting good advice here but your own countrymen can probably offer more pertinent advice related to products available to you there.

Vortex S Series fan is what I'd get if I had the coin to spare but trying to put a DIY RO system together first.

Been using AN nutes for 17 years and haters can bash all they want but it works damn well and not having to screw with pH is a big bonus for me. Base nutes don't cost more than GH or the rest and have more goodies built in. The only other AN stuff I get is Rhino Skin, (silica product that doesn't raise your pH through the roof), and Big Bud for kick ass colas. Any old CalMag will do and a dash of epsom salts now and then.

Works great in soilless, peat-based ProMix HP or the DWC I taught myself to do in '01. Works in soil too but me and soil don't get along well so I leave that to the growers that get kick ass colas while playing in the dirt.

Read 'til your eyes bleed then read some more. Here's something to help with that.

I found a great spot to download FREE POT BOOKS. I downloaded a grow bible first and got lots more. Books look great and complete like the real ones I have here. No web site but just a page of links. Just right click on what you want and then "Save Link As" to download so they don't open first as some are 50+ megs. They got lots. Enjoy.

In regards to the fan the phresh hyperfan seems way better imo

I'm not familiar with those. The Vortex S is one sexy fan tho and I have a speed controller.

I only have a 6" outlet but would get this 8" fan to run at half speed and get most of the cfm of a 6" fan. I'm running a dying 6" no-name inline now at half speed so could go even lower with the 8" and save more power.

That Hyperfan Stealth looks pretty good if noise is a concern. It's not for me.

Same thruput as the regular ones but about $100 more each. The regular ones have almost identical thruput as the S series and the prices are quoted at Vortex in CAN dollars at almost the same as the HyperFan site which I believe is in USD so the S series comes out around 25% cheaper when the exchange rate is taken into account.

Starting to love them even more and not just for their outer beauty either. Being Canadian and the fact they are made in Canada just seals the deal. For me. ;)

Don't see anything about built in speed controllers tho they sell one for $22 so no big deal. 15ft cord too but only 5ft on the fan.

Nice Temp/RH controller for $100. I built my own but the parts cost near that so theirs is nicer. Got some outer beauty there too. :)

Either would do the job equally well so warranty, price and availability are the real criteria to consider I think.

Still voting for the Vortex tho. :)

Mine came with speed controllers. They are removable.

I did not answer saying which fans are best. I hadn’t considered location. Just that they all work and mine have had good service so far.

Could be different models now maybe but no indication of controllers I could find in their info. None on the Vortex either when you think it would be so easy to build them in for a few bux more and is a desirable feature.

I like to get into all the nitty-gritty and weigh the pros and cons so comparison shopping for someone else, and maybe myself, was kinda fun. Who knows. My lotto tickets might pay off tonight and I'll get one gold-plated. Get one for everybody! :D

Getting stuff shipped up here is never free for me and another consideration I didn't think to mention. Nearest hydro shop is a 6 hour drive too. Prefer to walk into a store and pay cash when buying grow stuff so I never leave a paper trail to my door. Even if it costs more and that's hard for us Scotsmen. :)

Sunlight supply is based in Washington state but is a Canadian company.

They sell the controller separately as well. The temp sensor is newer I guess. I had not seen it til now.

Also. It is a digital controller. It actually works with the fan motor on a chip. It does not pulse like the common speed controllers like I use with my active air fans. They audibly pulse. It’s just not as bad as haters say and it hasn’t hurt my fans performance in 3 years.

I see it only does 315CFM tho. Most 6" are in the 400-440 range. Can see why it uses less power and can claim the highest cfm per watt. Would be more than the 440 I have running at half speed so good enough for my needs as they stand.

I'm using a ceiling fan speed controller done up in an electrical box with cords for my fan. Works fine and no pulsing or rumbling noise at all. The bearing is going in this no-name fan that I got used from a buddy who got it used from a buddy so no idea how many hours were on it when I got it. Dirty as hell when I got it so lots of hours I'm guessing. Buddy was running it full bore for months with the fan pushing air into the carbon filter and he lives on a gravel truck route 40 ft. from the road. Plugged the filter right up good and likely wasn't good for the fan either with no filter.

I have a heavy-duty 6" biscuit fan that works with the speed controller fine I can put into service with a couple of 6" round to 7x8" side take-out pieces of duct fittings that with some tin work, a few screws and some Gorilla tape could be put into service quick if this one craps out on me. Been noisy for a few months but not getting noticeably worse very fast. Won't be pretty but will for sure save my ass and might be a while before I'd bother to replace it.
