should i and how to top plants

i have 8 plants approx 20" 1 week into 12/12 this is my first grow i am using a 16" fan an extractor to attic canna soil and nutes and a 600 hps and 2 cfls for side lighting, do i need to top and if so how or tie any parts down? i heard that my light will sufficiently penetrate to the lower parts

just snip the top of the plant off right between the nodes and the bud will look like bunny ears at the top when its done.

it may... the plant splits. if you leave whole, they will be fater and choice its up to you i would do one or two and see if you like it...

ok so mabe i should wait until my second crop to top ...will toppin now stress\affect my plants?

Agreed, do not top after you have already started bloom, or it'll hurt your yield. I'd recommend some LST(low stress training) if you need to keep the heigth down, but it's too late for topping or FIM.


EDIT: After topping, FIM, etc.....in veg, you should try to give the plants a week or so to recover, before you switch them to 12/12. :)
