Should I cut now to save buds

Cutting back the light slowly from 12 hrs is said help the plant finish faster cause they think their time is coming to an end so they hurry up and ripen so that the off spring( seeds) will mature in time to drop to the ground before winter falls. I have not tried it but I know some people who put there girls in 3 days of darkness before harvest. To each his own. I personally would only do this would a finicky plant that didn't want to finish.
