I've been studying up and getting ready to start my first grow, but it seems I'll be going on a week-long vacation around the second week of July. I was planning on growing the seeds I've saved from my usual smoke - they're free, so I don't care if I completely screw up my first grow. I'm growing in soil, and I could easily build a rig to slowly water the plants while I'm away, so that's the one thing I'm not worried about. And a timer should take care of the lights while I'm gone. But I don't know what strain my seeds are; some sort of indica, judging from the high (great cure for insomnia). If I manage to start germinating the seeds this weekend, I'll have about 9 weeks before I'll be gone for a week. I think the plants should be well into flowering by then, shouldn't they? I could keep them in a vegetative state, but I'd risk outgrowing my grow box. On the other hand, it's a good 4 1/2 feet high and I'm growing with CFLs, so maybe heat and height won't be an issue. Or will they? Argh! What should I do? Is there any stage at which it's safe to leave the plants by themselves, or should I wait to grow until I get back from vacation? Thanks in advance for any advice!

go for it , any grow will give u experience, bigger pots will hold enough moisture for a week, try LST or tipping if hight is prob,i wouldent start flower till u get back, heat,bugs, air flow,danger of burning your house down,and just missing out on there fist week of flower ,what will the girls think of u, bad dad!
Ah, yes, burning down the house. I keep freaking out about that, even though it's just some light bulbs on a timer, nothing particularly dangerous. Just need to make sure I wire them up right...
phyzix, I def. want to get an HID setup, probably by my second or third grow. Just not ready to jump into the deep end, yet.
why not wait till you come back from holiday?

man do it i was in the last couple of weeks of flower when i went a way for a week...i just watered heavy the morning i left and set a digital timer and watering system to water for 1 min on the 3rd and 5th day when i came back they where fine...
spent like $35 building a DIY watering system...$4 tote, $5 10 feet of 1/2 inch tube, $12 air pump, $3 airstones, $15 water pump
