Should I trim more off the lower to "lollipop" them?

I always trim off every leaf from the bottom half of the plant, and cut any branches off the bottom 3/4 of the plant that arent making it to the canopy. But there are alot of different opinions on this subject.

Basementboy: Tje22 is right about the varying opinions. Cervantes is against it in his book, but he's lighting with high intensity discharge lighting that illuminates the plants all the way down to the bucket. I've asked our instructors about this and one said that if the lower leaves are showing some kind of distress; browning and wrinkling from lack of light, then it's okay to remove them but if they're green and appear healthy to leave them be. I haven't had any problems following their advice. Lets see what the others say. HSA

If you check my journal there r some more pictures but pretty much what I did was go to the bottom and I looked for the branches that were creating many small fan leaves but didnt show any real structure growth in regards to budding. The top half, as you can see, was spurting out tons of thumb size nodes everywhere while on that bottom half it looked like the 3rd day of lighting but its really week 3. So that's how I judged how to cut.

HSA, I run HCFL underneath my plants near the buckets, do you think this will increase my lower branches yeild more? Also if you look @ the pictures what would your personal reccomendation be? Should i trim up it a bit more? All the branches I left seem to be quiet health and look as thought they will produce good.

TJE, So I know you say 3/4 of the plant but to be honest this is my first grow and it would scare the shit outta me to do that much. Im scared I will not get as much yeild and I have literally put all my money into this. I think I am going to take on of them tonight as do as you say you do. Trim all leaves and whatnot not producing buds and then take out small branches not reaching it to the canopy. SCROG netting them may also help with this because you even your canopy out.

Input is always wanted, I'm a new grower and want all the information I can obtain

Just to be clear, I said I trim all of the leaves off of the bottom half, and all of the small branches that dont make it to the canopy off of the bottom 3/4

BTW Everything looks great man! I'm subbed up for this one!

If it's not going to be useful then I suggest taking it off. You want the plant to focus its energy towards producing the good buds. Others will differ, it depends on the light, room, etc.

I would consider that many say fan leaves are storages of food, increase photosynthesis, etc (read up).. I usually cut everything on the bottom 1/3 kinda like yours but still get many pop corn buds so for my up coming flower cycle in a sog 2-3 weeks in flower, I'm gonna chop bottom 3/4 of branches but leave more fan leaves something like all of the top half of the plants fan leaves. there's also the notion that the bigger fan leaves not only block some bud sites but actually take more energy than a newer fanny. So mayb ill get some of those big original ones out too.. just something to think about

looking lovely btw a little stretchy for my taste.. I bet you get many pop corn buds, lollipopping usually happen with the shorter bushier plants from what I've seen
keep readin and keep growin

TJE- I got what you meant I just couldn't write it down right, lol. Thanks alot for your input, after I got done trimming everything (although I was scared while doing it) I am much happier with the results. the lower forming branches seemed as thought they were earlier in the budding phase than alll the other nodes and therefore seemed like they would not yield much. Using this mindset I trimmed off all the lower branches and trimmed up some stems to my liking. tonight I will post more pics in my journal. I can already tell them I like what I did :) Thanks again man

Smokebros, thanks I did some major trimming and im setting up my other room too, take a peek if you got some time. If u want more specs or info get @ me.

Mr. Jingleheimer-schmidt, I have done alot of reading but books can only become so personal with each individuals grow. I like reading what real people like you and other think about the situations. People that are actively involved with a grow, and answers like these are exactly what im going for. As for my plants growing strechy like that I think it has to do with the strain. its a blueberry/white widow. then again I heard its cause I run all floros. Either way man thanks a ton for your input as always.

thanks all, ill post another update tonight with some of the new clones, my 2nd flowering room, and updates on the moms.

Faller, Do you prefer leaving them to trimming or are you saying you've never had to trim them and have still had good luck.
