Shrooms......

So I'm sorry if this is a no no on this site. Not sure. But anyone know of anywhere to get shroom kits? My roommate grew some a while back and I want to now. He got his kit from shamanic-extracts.com but I've read a lot of bad things about them so I'm wondering if he just got lucky or it's all just bullshit.

Never grew shrooms yet, only weed. he has this strain called "Golden Teacher" which I enjoyed a lot. Looking for that.

So I've been doing a ton of reasearch and decided to go with the wild bird seed method instead of cakes. But I can't find any info on what to do with it once it's been inoculated. I know with cakes you put it on wet perlite and etc, etc. But how do u use the wbs? All I can guess is lay it in a tray pit a little soil on top of it and let it go. Is that true?

Since your growing cubes you can stay very simple. The wbs will have more than enough food to support several healthy flushes especially if you soak your wbs in gypsum before you inoculate. I'd take your bin or tub put down some tinfoil to block light from underneath then sterilized vermiculite not alot maybe 1/2" thick, take your inoculated wbs, really make sure your jars are fully inoculated, break it apart and layer on top of the vermiculite. At this point you can just cover this with tin foil and let the mycelium fully inoculate your substrate. Make sure to keep it in the dark. Or you can case your wbs by putting a thin layer of vermiculite over it. Then cover and wait till your substrate is fully inoculated, usually once you start seeing the substrate pin or knot. Once you see knots pop off the top tinfoil and introduce light. Bing bam boom.

Some tips use powered gypsum when soaking grain. rye seed is the shit especially with gypsum. Always make sure things are fully inoculated before moving stages. A strong mycelium mat is very resilient to trichoderma.

Thanks a lot dude. Very helpful, especially the gypsum tip. I actually have some gypsum on the way and I was wondering if I should soak with it. So I was gonna soak the wbs with kelp meal and gypsum. I was also thinking of using humic/fulvic acid also. Anyone experiment with this?

I've personally tried about every additive you could imagine. Unless I was using a soil or compost of some kind i would stick with gysum. Keep it simple.

What kind of tub or bin are you growing in?

K, heard. Well imma try anyway. I got prints so I should have more than enough spores to play with. I would like to see side by side comparisons. I've also read about people saying that kelp increases potency and yield. I've also read about people saying that it made no noticeable difference. So I'd like to experiment with it myself.

I really want to do a journal for it but I'm worried since shrooms carry such a heavier charge.......hmmm. Actually I am going to do a journal but imma gonna do a one shot. Upload the entire thing at once.

So this is what I'm going to do.
#1
WBS with no additives
#2
WBS soaked with gypsum
#3
WBS soaked with gypsum and kelp
#4
WBS soaked with gypsum, kelp, and humic acid
#5
WBS mixed with Malted Barley and no additives
#6
WBS mixed with Barley soaked with gypsum and kelp meal

I like to experiment and I'm the kind of person who needs to see results first hand. This is gonna be so fun.......

Sterilite 16428012 6 Quart/5.7 Liter Storage Box, White Lid with Clear Base, 12-Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002BDTETW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_GxxAybP3RXJHP

These are the tubs that I'm gonna use. 12-pack for $20, not bad. Only problem is idk how tall these shrooms may grow so idk if there is enough vertical space to grow them in those containers. Think the description says like 8 1/4 inches tall. So I'm not sure.

Was probably going to flip one container upside down onto the other and secure it (clamps, screws, or glue not sure how sturdy this plastic is gonna be). I was even thinking of cutting 6 of them in half, flip them upside down onto the other container. Secure one half of the tub onto the container. Then connect the two halves with hinges so that I have an openable lid.

So something like that^^^ but one half will be secured to the other container

The strains I have are golden teacher and mazatapec. I was gonna grow both but I just realized that for this to be a proper experiment i need use only one strain.

Rambling......sorry I'm really excited. I love to grow shit.....anything but havemer messed with fungi yet.

i guess I need to do some extensive reasearch on shrooms. How they grow, what they eat.

Oh and also.....how much light do they need? And how intense does the light need to be.

Speaking of......I have some mushroom compost that I use for teas n shit. Could I substitute that for the vermiculite? I've put a lot of money in this already and I don't want to buy perlite vermiculite quite yet.

Like put mushroom compost on the bottom of the tub. Put the wbs seed down, then cover with a thin layer of the compost.

You can absolutely use the compost but remember you sterilize the wbs and you pasteurize the compost. Do not sterilize compost. And make sure your compost has good aeration and doesn't compact easily. You don't want it muddy.

Also it will take a little longer to inoculate your substrate using the compost, but you can make it a bit thicker which is great for multiple flushes and keeping your mat in tact. Plus fruits tend to be bigger with some strains
