Sideways tent? Anyone tried this?

I was just wondering (stoned contemplation as usual), I currently have a 4x4x7 flowering tent and was wondering if I could simply flip it on its side. Boosting my 16ft² to 28ft².
Has anyone done this?
It means I would be reduced to only 4ft of growing height, but with short plants in a scrog(?) set up it could work.
I'm running LED lights (quantum board DIY built) so height isn't too much of a concern.
Just looking to see if anyone has done this.

The more I think about it the more work it's going to require, however that's not a problem I don't mind doing the work.
The lighting and extraction/intake I can manage no problem, but I'd need to work on a watering system and a scrog net.

My veg cab is way too small to allow me 150 clones, but I could probably manage about 20-30, get them all to 10-12(?) inches and then flip the lot into flower.

I have a GSC from Blimburn which seems to be very low, even in its first week of flower it hasn't stretched a great deal. I took a clone, and could use that as a mother.

No, but I invert my tent skin so the flaps are up top. When using leds there is not much heat to exhaust conventionally, and since hot air rises...

Less mechanical failure probability = money and time well spent to me, plus we figured out how to use gravity fed systems somewhere around the bronze age so it's pretty damn simple. I strongly agree with the KISS method.

He'll yeah dude thats a great idea!! I think If you perfected growing auto strains, you could have quite the hardy yield and turn around. I don't think scrog would be ideal...i don't know how you would be able to completely fill in 7ft wide worth of canopy while keeping your plants short enough to fit under 4 ft. Everything under your net gets cut off and lollipopped anyway. Being you only have 2 - 3 ft of growing height, dont want to have to remove the lower 12 inches of the plant. Thatd only leave about a foot or so of buds above the scrog net. A SOG would probably work the best. That or learning to grow autos

I think autos run the risk of getting too tall without the possibility of being able to top them effectively, if I had to pick an auto strain to do this with it would be red dwarf, the seeds I have rarely get over 2 feet tall. But if it were my experiment, I would root a bunch of 4 inch indica clones, veg them to 6 inches just to build a little root structure and throw them right into 12/12.

I have a 5x5 that I considered flipping on its side to open the flap at the top, and hang the light outside/above the tent.

I was having height and heat problems at the time.

Some great ideas, thanks for the contributions everyone!
I've just fitted a scrog net into my small veg cabinet and I'm going to be flipping that to 12\12 in the next week or so.
I figure if I do a small scale scrog first it'll give me some experience, should I choose to go that route with the sideways tent.

you would need cross bars to hold the weight. also working top down would be a bitch. you would have to climb in there, or completely unzip the tent to work.

I don't see this working very well, I think just getting a second tent would be better.

I plan to have mine open from the front, not the top. So I'd still have access like I do now. Just with a lower height.
And I have 3 bars that came with my tent, I'm currently only using two with the setup I have now.
My diy LED fixture weighs next to nothing too.
