Silencer/Muffler Q

I'm somewhat skeptical that a silencer/muffler significantly reduces the noise from a ventilation system. Say I was to get a 6" 440cfm fan/filter combo rated at 52 decibels. Would the silencer/muffler actually decrease the noise well?

It will to a degree. Go with larger duct and reduce down to your fan size at the fan and it will help with the noise as well.

It does help it will not eliminate i like mine a lot takes away the sharpness. Best bet get a larger fan and duct and run it on a fan speed controller atless than full power.

I have one.. it muffles the woosh of air going through the duct on the exit side of the muffler. It does nothing for the woosh of air in front of the muffler, nor does it do anything to reduce the noise an inline fan makes while it's running.

I hang my inline with bungee cords and wrap it in foam from walmart crafts section. The foam isnt really doing shit.

Use insulated ducting and go to lowes or Home Depot and buy a sheet of some smooth ole steel ducting and roll of the dampering sticky tin foil foam and peel off the wax paper and stick it on inside of the smooth ducting sheet and roll up the ducting sheet and install it to the fan then run your insulated ducting to the silencer and ull barely hear the fan. Ull only hear noises from your oscillating fan and ballast. And maybe now u can finally talk to ur plants.

I can tell you that a duct muffler will definitely help. Get some insulated ducting too. Using un-insulated duct is like adding a noise amplifier. Using both the muffler and the insulted ducting has reduced my noise by more than 1/2 without any CFM loss.

Cover the fan in a thick blanket to reduce some noise.

.. What about a simple wooden box?.. I heard putting your fan in a plywood or MDF box will damper noise.. Then you could put foam or a blanket in the box as well..

Just got this off google.. I saw that the only problem might be overheating..

...if you need a muffler you can find one by Moon Goblin here that you can put together for cheap, ...like almost free.
