Okay. I am not a mod; I don't play one on TV, and I didn't stay at some major hotel chain last night, but here is my opinion in all its majesty.
DMT extractions and Cannabis extractions are different.
For DMT extraction's final step, VM&P naphtha (a high-boiling alkane fraction) is viable but marginal imo ... getting the 150º "heavies" out of the final product takes time andor a good hard vacuum. I'd use it in a pinch, but I'd much prefer a lower boiler. Coleman distillate is cheap, clean and good, and since I did the cookup I know it's clean.
For hempwork, hexanes are the highest-boiling solvent I can countenance, although I note with respect some if the isopropanol results other site members (especial nod to Oakley84). The Simpson oil will contain residues from (let's face it!) paint thinner. The ONLY way I'd use naphtha for hempwork is if I committed to a vacuum distillation of the extract to obtain a solvent-free THC-enriched fraction. I've done this in the past but don't currently have the equipment.
When I last did DMT, I performed a final crystallization from hexanes, with a final freezer step. I discarded the "oilies" since I was after purity, not yield. Sad to say ... I did not get crystals as magnificent as the ones in Unnk's photo.
I apologize if I've continued a thread-unrelated subject. cn
