I got mine at around 8 inches actually. No problems there at all. Plant is loving it. I use the "hand" rule. Hold your hand under the light. Does it feel warm after 30 seconds? If so, it's too warm for your plant.

Also, I found this distance by starting at around 18 inches too, and lowering it a bit every day. I don't feel the need to lower it any more, but I haven't had a single heat related issue yet.

Well if he was growing with just the mars hydro.. and then added another led.. and noticed a 30% increase in bud size.. that would make sense.. But if he was growing side by side those 30% would be a big deal, if same conditions + strains and different lights. :p
 
OK that's a relief, starting to claw but I also fed blood meal recently and might be N tox, but I keep hearing led too close can cause it too

I'm a newb so I can't even help you out there man, but I'm pretty certain I could move my light a few inches closer and still not burn it. But if you fear it's the light try moving it up, see if the clawing stops.. Worst that can happen is a bit slower growth and a bit more stretching because of the light being so far away.

I cant really say in your situation either because my two mars panels are like having 4 of the 300's. I have to keep mine 18-24 inches above my canopy for the full grow. I also have to wear shades if i am in my grow area too long because my eyes start to strain and i get a headache.

I believe that with heat stress the leaves Taco upwards and also the leaf tips get brittle and turn upwards. Also the little serenaded edges on the fans start to turn upwards. I do know with stronger leds you can get bleaching of the top leaves and bleached buds which result in little to no thc in the bud that is bleached.
 
lol its funny you say that I had the same exact idea, started doing semi research , doesn't seem super difficult minor wiring, just seems like a lot of work finding good cobs, I hear Cree is pretty normal for growing just have to order the correct spectrums and balance them on your rack, seems like a lot of fun since I have p c hardware experience so shouldn't much too impossible also requires more $$, I'm happy starting with this it's a huge change from cfl

When I started out I was like "No way lol way too advanced" But the more you read up on spectrums, pars, efficacy etc.. You realize you'll actually save money in the long run, and get a top of the line LED while doing so.. + The build process actually seems fun.

Yep i agree. I wont ever buy another pre made led light. I also will be going with diy. I have spent months reading up on builds and calculating costs. My only hold back is money at the moment.

Yup, he's pretty great at what he does. I've watched all his videos.. It's super entertaining/informative.. I wish I could afford to build some of the stuff he does :D
 
I've been running my LED at about 17-18inches at the closest as youngins. Starting 12/12 and gunna let em stretch to about 12" away. I've been too paranoid to go closer.
