You're just wasting coco with pots that big. You can grow trees in 3 gallon pots of coco.
I ran a 2 gallon, 3 gallon and 17 gallon, in the same tent. The smaller pots required a more frequent fertigation schedule with a higher concentration of fertilizer. Less fertigation as the only benefit, but that goes against the soilless efficacy.

Well...MAYBE my potassium based silica had time during the 3 month veg to actually convert into usable silica...

I never run larger than 3 gallon pots using 100% coco. I just plug a blumat in and walk away. 20 gallons inside in a tent is overkill.

I gotta look into these Blumats. Seems like everyone is using them and if it’s set and forget I can dig it

Vivosun 5gal fabric pots seem very tiny. For 5 plants in a 48x48x80” tent are these fabric pots good size to max yield? Should i return for larger? Theyre 12.5” wide and 9” height. Is it easier to maintain the larger sizes?
This is a very open ended question. It's going to depend on a variety of factors.

Right now I have four plants in 3 gallon airpots in a 5x5 using 100% coco. Two ended up on the runty size compared to the others otherwise four plants would have filled the tent.

You can compare my answer with others in the thread and can see a large variety of answers.

I'm going to drop a single seed today (Platinum OG) in 50/50 mix of worm castings and peat, with a dose of Azomite tossed in. If I have some rock phosphate I'll add some of that too. ...and mycorhyzae (sp??) for the roots. I'll be doing three under a Spider Farmer SF7000 using 5 gallon Vivosun grow bags. I've done a couple of outdoor grows in these and they work great. Roots fill them but you can tell, after you dump the soil, that the roots had all the room they wanted. I just want to see how it goes with the worm poop mix. Seems like I'm always experimenting.

You should be able to reuse much of the coco.
Coco is cheap and reusing it properly is rarely worth the couple bucks saved in my opinion

Root trappers used to make "tall" style fabric pots. Great way to save some space in a tent

I reuse coco over and over. Saves me around $100 a year. Not a lot of money, but hey $100 is $100.

Also, cannabis seems to prefer wide containers to tall. I tried tree planters (very tall and narrow) years ago, and the plants hated them.

And I dropped 2 of the 3 seeds on the ground. ...in the leaves and gravel. MF'er!!! (Insert really long string of profanity here; I don't have time to type it). Well I got the one planted. I've got 3 Mendocino Farms "Yumboldt" that I could run, but damn I was looking forward to the Platinum OG.

With the 5 gallon it's basically a 3 gallon bottom size with a few inches more on space. They don't make them in the larger sizes for that reason.

$100 is $100 until you're wondering why you're fighting fungus gnats. Not to mention the time wasted. No thanks, I always have better things to do with my time. Worth way more than$100 a year savings. I've seen you talk about your lights and genetics, you're telling me you cheap ass out on your coco?

I don't have fungus gnat issues. I also don't buy a new car every year. Does that make me cheap? I've reused coco for over a decade. I do buy new bags from time to time, because I can't reclaim all of it, but new coco bags are rarely purchased. There is no reason to.

Can't compare a $100 yearly savings to a new car. Reclaiming coco takes time. If you spend 10 hours a year (lol how long do you really think u spend?) That would be $10 saved per hour worked. $100 savings? I say it best be about a half hour of work otherwise it's penny wise pound foolish.

I suppose if you got the time to kill why not though

Yeah, I spend maybe an hour a year in labor tops to reclaim my coco. It really takes very little effort. I don't like to throw away perfectly useful stuff. Also every new bag I buy is more plastic waste in the landfill, and more carbon burned to move that bag across the globe. There is really no reason to not reuse your coco, unless you just like buying stuff.

I dunno, nor do I care. He seems like another noob who thinks he knows it all, and wants me to spend more time driving to the store to buy new coco than I would spend to just simply reclaim it for reuse.
Yup noob here. I wasn't even talking trash. I legit have seen you talking shop and was just surprised to hear you cheap assing about something so cheap as coco. Carry on. I know I seen you talking about how u handle fungus gnats. This explains it
