slow bud development? help

Hello RIU! I am currently flowering two completely different strains from a goody bag of seeds ive been keeping for awhile. Both plants showed sex 14 days ago after being in 12/12 for 2 weeks. I am using a 150 hps in a cabinet setup. I have grown outdoors in the past but never kept as close an eye on bud growth as indoors, but both plants seem to be very slow in developing more hairs. I may just be very impatient or something im doing is wrong. please give me some input on this so i can enjoy all the scrumptious goodies most of the rest of you are sippin on. Thanks

pictures would help alot, but im having the same problem as you, i have 3 plants, 1 is 3 1/2 feet tall and bushy and have been on the flowering cycle for at least 2-2 1/2 weeks now and still no buds but there are pistils, im pretty sure its either just the way the plant is or artificial lighting takes longer but you said you have an HPS and ive heard that those make more buds and flower at a faster rate than incandescent, cfls, etc.

150 watts hps will imo equal slow growth especially for 2 plants.
Just because its a hps doesn't mean its a good hps and being so low powered as 150 watts is not great at all.
If you want good results i think that a 400 watt is the minimum especailly for 2 plants.
Also it all depends on the strain as to speed of bud growth:joint:

yea, you could add 200w of floros.

You want a good powered mh or a good high power shps. Atleast for really good growth.

flouros have poor penetration i wouldnt recommend using those bc i had to set up 2 other lights to reach the middle/bottom half of my plants, i say get one 600 watt HPS and that should deffinetely do the trick for 2 plants

Thanks sticky. I forgot to mention that my plants are only about 18 inches at the moment. I set up two of my 300 watt equivalent cfls back in mix with the 150 hps. The cab im growing in is only 20 in wide by 15 in deep. Im going to see how this works out but obviously its a lighting issue, however being that i was laid off from my job friday its also a cost issue now. but if the need arises i have a whole crate of cfls to add. thanks for you input

Try checking your pH levels. I don't really have a good pH tester but I had analyzed everything else on this NL clone I had that was like 3-4 weeks into flower and had seriously really tiny buds on it. So I knew I couldn't check the pH with the crappy tester I had so I just watered with some distilled water and then the next day I noticed the bud growth began again. Just my 2 cents.

I will try using distilled water. at the moment i am using city water and havent tested ph very regularly for the same reason, no reliable testing device. Im willing to try most anything at this point since im so far along and the plants are healthy as hell. I just dont want to compromise all the time and money and get some airy headache buds. Thanks for the 2 cents.

switch to 400w hps for flowering(red spectrum only) and ul see buds after 1 week ov flower, by week2 theyl be forming nicely all over the plant, week3 welldeveloped, week4 starting to glisten with thc,week5 thickening upnicely, week6 bloom explosion, week7 pistils 50% red, week 8 nice fat coverd in THC, sticky dank and pistils 70-75%red and ready to harvest baby yeeeeeeeeeeeee

I would switch to mh and shps creates a way better spectrum. But I cant say that will just start making your buds grow either.

HAZE2 i disagree mh is better for vegging, hps is proven superior over mh for flowering, u only want the red spec realy for budding, blue and red for vegg!! and he will 1million % yeild a lot more if he listenes to what i say!!
also city water is way to hard so if he can use distiled water(ph neutral) all the better!! wot u say haze?

Um well i just do alot of research on the whole mh and shps for flowering and think its better. Look when the sun in the fall and winter give out more blue spectrum the red spectrum does not just stop , its just a lower dose. Now the summer time the sun gives off just littler amounts of mh spectrum and it increases the red spectrum in the summer. Thus mh and shps are always present through out the whole grow outdoors why sacrifice indoors.

I will say yes if you cant have both the spectrums present than yes mh for vegg and shps for flower.

i agree 100% haze2 but a duel bulb for veg and red only for flower as the manufactures put a lil to much blue spectrum in duo bulbs so its more benefficial to use just red for flower!!!! ?????

I hear that but thats why I use a 400w mh and a 600 shps bulb in one hood the growzilla by hydrofarm and damn it works like a charm.
