I have 4 seedlings under a 2ft/24w fluro they are 4 days old...I feel like they shouldve been bigger by now...I do have a 150 w HPS should I just transplant them? some of the plants have the white tap root out about half to a whole inch.I'm worried i can damage them, I'm running a hydro set up and im going to have to switch them to bigger net cup with hydroton rocks. My 15w hps light is on yo yos so i can adjust the height ....heres a pic tell me what ya think..2011-01-31 10.35.19.jpg

I would just use the 150w HPS, they are stretching quite a bit. They're just a little hungry for more light.

It looks like they are stretching, i would advise you to lower your lights. I am not an expert so if i'm wrong, anyone agree?

Yes, if they're CFL you can get 1 inch from the plant and that's actually where you want to be. With his 150w HPS, however, I would get 4 to 6 inches away.

are you using a grow light or just some florescent bathroom tube light? Make sure you have the right color temp; your going to want ~6500k for veg. If you have a mid spectrum light like 4-5000k they will stretch like a bastard. Ofc at only 4 days it might just be a little early to tell they look stretchy though. Try moving the light closer if they don't start to fill out in a few days. GL

4-6 inches away from the 4 day old plants; with a 150 watt HPS? Doesn't that seem a bit much on the ladies just yet? I would think a foot+...test the different heats at different level (since it's adjustable) and see what they can handle. You don't wanna go roasting those babies....no?

I have a 150w HPS and it doesn't really let off a lot of heat. Right now I have my 400w HPS 6" from my canopy.

Yeah, use your hand. 150w HPS won't be hot.
K, you got that noobboob? Stand in the closet and use your hand, skrunch real low though; so you're the same height as the plants. Act like you are a 4 day old seedling, and see if it's too hot for you. If so, adjust up acordingly. lol use your hand...

is your floro a T5 T8 or Cfl? If it's a T8 (standard shop light bulb) You're going to have to put it very close to your babies like right on top of them 1 inch or closer. If it's a T5 (skinny bulbs about the size of your finger around) then You just need to lower it about 1-4 inches away from them. If you're using a CFL (twisty looking bulb) then do the same 1-4 inches. CFL and T5 are more powerful than the T5 if you look on youtube there is a video about it Hold on I'll find it for you

Whats your deal dude?

Hold your hand 5 inches under the light for 1 minute, if your hand doesn't feel like it's going to burn (and with 150w is wont, I promise you) then that's a good distance.

Or you can do what QuickBush recommended because that's how he took it...

I'm here to give him helpful advice, not argue with you. You could do the same, ya know?

What I'm saying is holding your hand under a light, and then closing the door, with reflectors, is going to have different temps. Instead of just throwing a distance out there without knowing his setup( 6 inches)Maybe suggest something that will help him figure out an ideal distance for his specific setup; not just, touch it,is it hot?

I never said touch it. Read my previous entry. If you don't know how hot is too hot, you shouldn't be growing..

Sorry man, I don't know too much about hydro yet.. I've only grown in soil. I know when you transplant you want to water heavily in soil but I'm not sure what to do for hydro.
