Slow growth? (something feels wrong)

Hi!

Recently I posted a thread wondering if you could reverse flowering because i had been giving these new ones 10 hours light by mistake and they had been showing flowering tendencies. Now! It's been over one week since that post and i have been giving them much needed light, atleast 18 hours a day, some days more but they are growing very slowly, like its stunted, so that's why i post today. What do you think? Today is the 20th day since they were put in the growing room and this is how they look.

20140822_092214.jpg 20140822_092252.jpg 20140822_092315.jpg

Measuring is in Centimeters. The left plant seems to be small for its age of 20 days, what do you think? The right one is very tall and it is one who shows flowering-tendencies. It has "flowering-sacks" on the top of the plant, but had on the lower parts as well before i decided to snip those off. It also have a red-looking stem, why? i dont know.

My setup is:

600 W
Ebb and flow, hydroponics
Medium: Those rocks in the picture (dont know what they are called)
Got one lower tank with water and nutrients mixed, im using Biocanna.
Pumping up these fluids to the second tank where the plants are.
EC: 1.4
PH:6-6,5
Temp: 25-27 C
Feed-schedule: Every 2 hours with 15 min "watering"

2 pics clearly show male plants.

Also with plants that young EC 1.4 is excessively high.

Usually at your stage of growth EC 0.6-0.8 will be ample.

Ummm, that's a male. Kill it with fire.

Do you think this can be the reason why that female plant i growing slowly? too high ec?

Also, next time...for fucks sake...give your plants some more light.
I am :)

I am :)

It very well could be the reason yes.

High EC at too early stage can cause issues with osmotic pressure in the rootzone.

My advice.

Adjust your res to 0.8EC and monitor the statistics every 24hours.

If your EC increases after 24 hours by more than 0.2 then you need to reduce it down to 0.6.
Then test again.

If your EC decreases by more than 0.2 then you can increase your EC next time.

You want to try and find the sweet spot where nutes and water are used at the same leaving your EC stable.

The "sweetspot" will change at each stage of growth.

As long as your pH is within 5.2-6.2 then there is no requirement to adjust it.

If it falls or increases outside the range then adjust back to 5.8pH.

Hi!

Today is the 16th day since i posted here and development has come although new problems has risen. I am hoping to, again, get some needed input. I have attached three pictures of the plant which shows you the current state it's in.
The plant looks grumpy and over-watered and it probably is but the leafs looks dry as well, hence the confusion. I can't seem to figure out the optimal feed-schedule.
Still got some heat-stress which i cant do so much about right now, it's an economic issue. The light green patterns and dark green patterns on the leafs is my biggest confusion right now. I haven't looked it up myself just yet. What do you think?

Setup:
  • 600 W
  • Ebb and flow, hydroponic
Medium
Those rocks in the picture (dont know what they are called)
Got one lower tank with water and nutrients mixed, im using Biocanna.
Pumping up these fluids to the second tank where the plants are.
EC: 1.0
PH:5.8-6.8 (right now: 6.2 ph)
Temp: 25-27 C
Feed-schedule: Every 1 hour with 9 min "watering"

Over watered.

Are those plants in the straight clay pellets?

Or have you rooted them in rockwool first?

When I ran hydro I used 3x3 grodan cubes then into clay pellets.

I was only feeding for 15 mins every hour at the height of flowering.

You are flooding for 9 minutes every hour so I would cut that back to 9 mins every 2 hours (during lights on only !) and see how it progresses.

Thank you for your fast reply :)

When you say 3x3, are you talking in inches or cm? i got 3x3 cm. I am using something simular to rockwool, its from "root riot" and they are small cubes. They are rooted in that.

Im thinking of filling the whole upper tank with clay pellets instead of just having them in "pots" which are lowered into the tank itself. Maybe the roots system likes that?

Haha i guess i was overwatering them as you said, it's just that it was so strange. I had them on 10min/2h feed and they started to look unhappy (although, i didn't turn off the feeding when lights were off). The conclusion for that must be that there is something else bothering them. Anyway, i have set the feed schedule for 10min/2h again and also included not to feed them at "night-time".

Nice talking to you again, it's good to have some kind of advice. I will probably upload more problems later on, hopefully not, but in anyway i will post/update the situation.

They were 3inch by 3inch cubes.

I was running a wilma drip system but used flood stakes.

I used to hand water until the roots were prolific in the 3x3's and then they went into my system.

At first I was only feeding 3x during lights on 18/6.

You may find that even 10mins every 2 hours is still too much.

See how they go and adjust timings as necessary.

Not only is the growing a learning curve but as to is the frequency of watering.

I believe rooting would go faster if i had bigger cubes. I have an experiment with two other plants (same age). One is in hydro, one is in soil. The one with soil seems to be growing faster. But when i come to think of it, the one in hydro doesn't have the optimal setting. Anyway, they seem to like something to tug in to.

I have changed the feeding to 10min / 3 h and they seem to be much happier.

One of the plants were lacking Mg because of low PH. I havn't got EC-controll fixed (need PH buffer fluid).

Much to adjust, which is fun!

I'm trying to grow white widow, may i ask what you are growing?

Currently I've got
HSO blue dream x1
DINAFEM critical+ x2
Critical+ clones x3
Blue dream clones x2
DINAFEM auto MOBY dick.

Here's a pic of how it all looks.

image.jpg

Photoperiod Plants have been topped and pruned for mainline training but I didn't bother tying them down to complete the mainline training.

All under a 400w MH at present.

Clones have rooted. Just waiting for more roots before transplanting them and switching to 12/12.

The 3 photo plants are in 18L pots of coco/perlite, 80/20.

The auto is in approx 5L pot of same mix.

The 5 clones will go into 5L pots too as the auto will be finished in a couple of weeks creating enough space for my 5 clones to flower out.

Hi J!

I'm sorry for not responding and if i knew you had posted I would answer in an instant. Your setup looks great btw! plants seem healthy and thick must be even better now 11 days later :D

Questions:

Firstly I must admit my unawareness of those name drops you have laid before me. If it's plant names, I have never heard of them. Indica, Sativa ratio? Any favorite?

What does coco contain? never looked it up myself, i guess i could do that but if you know I'll gladly listen.

I'm curious about the green pipe in the background, what's that for?

How often do you harvest? schedule? yield?

(Feel free to answer as you like, no obligation)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Never tried to topp before, im doing LST right now, nothing advanced. Here are some pics of whats happening right now:

20140922_174630.jpg 20140922_165601.jpg 20140922_165611.jpg

As you can see, the right one is starting to grow. Those yellow leaves on the right plant were due to low ph. Mg was not absorbed by the plant because of that. It seems healthy, but i'm concerned about those curled up leaves. Temperature is fine now, so i'm wondering what it is. Any ideas?

The left ones are in different ages. Actually the one in the tank is the oldest one. As you would know, the nutrient EC is too high. Not much to about it. The one in soil is 2 weeks younger. Kinda fun to see the difference and that there is so much difference.

light schedule still 18/6 but it is probably time for flowering soon. Opinion?

Mistakes that have been made:
- planting a male
- temperature, too high
- too low PH
- too high EC

Finally things are going on the right way, too be continued. I hope to see an update from you as well, good hearing from you =)

My plants are mainly indica Dom hybrids.

Both finish around 64 days of 12/12.

My favourites currently are the
HSO BLUE DREAM (HUMBOLDT SEED ORGANISATION)
DINAFEM CRITICAL+

The BLUE DREAM is an S1 seed form of the clone only strain that floats around USA dispensaries.

Coco is made of coconut husks. That's it.

Tomorrow will be day 8 of 12.12 for my grow room.

I'm not perpetual and I like having down time between harvests.
If I was perpetual I would find it very difficult to smoke 400g of bud every 3months lol.

Basically my grow takes about 4 months from start to finish. I average around 400g dry. Sometimes more sometimes less. I haven't got to 450g yet which is my goal.

The green "pipe" is a tubular greenhouse heater.

By using this heater during winter along with my thermostatic fan speed controller means I don't have to spend a fortune on heating my room. The tube heater runs me 80w per hour of use. During winter I have it on for my night cycles.

Biocanna isn't for reservoirs. It's for soil and soilless soil substrates. You don't read EC for organics. And organics grow in reservoirs and block oxygen. Sorry nobody else caught that.

Wow I never saw that.

Bio canna is indeed for organic soil/soiless mediums.

I don't really understand what that means, what isn't a soil or soil-less medium? Can you give an example? and you mean its wrong to use Biocanna for hydro?

Thank's for the input :)
