Slug Attack....

The ants are bad where my greenhouses are just even in the off season .....I don't know if it the moisture or maybe even the cover that the houses provide ......somebody was saying sprinkle boric acid or some shit like that ......the don't ever actually go up the plants or infest the foliage/leafs .....I just don't like them even crawling around my smart pots or seeing a random scout on a plant .......I've been spraying the ground with stuff from Home Depot ....well before the plants ever enter the G-house.....it works great at keeping them down to a minimum as well as spiders .....just a bit of cinnamon sprinkled around the bases and I rarely see them ......but they are all along the perimeter especially on watering days ......il have to look into growing some repellents like you mentioned along the outside maybe
DE is death to ants as long as you can keep it dry. And Terro ant bait is good, it just takes a while to work. There will always be another colony to replace the one you just eradicated. When I keep the inside perimeter of my GH dusted with DE I'll never see an ant.

Ive never had luck with slug bait, it's like they would climb up my plants to get away from it. Beer works well in my experience and it's an excuse to take a few out when checking on plots
Did not know that. I don't really have a slug problem, but always toss out a little of the bait.

They hate copper tape and wire, make a loop around the pot or base of the plant. I think it is an electrical thing, kinda like licking a 9V battery's terminals.

The reason I asked was I have a shot-ton of Epsom Salts, about 25lbs. I have slug bait, Sevin, and DE but I'll never use all this Epsom. I used to mix Seven in my fertilizer cakes for my bonsai so I got a lot of that laying around too. I make a slurry of water and fly bait and that has been more effective than slug bait. They crawl up in that and die quick.

I don't like to put too much poison in the soil. The plant will take some of it up. I use Epson salts in my water through out the grow. A couple TBS per five gallons.

What are these "pellets" everyone speaks of for slugs? Id like to use cups of beer but I only visit my ladies every 20 days or so. Id imagine the beer cup would last a week without a refill/dump refill

I use a 150 mesh sandpaper. I found it at home depot in the rental section for redoing woodfloors...It won't break down with water. Another idea I had that I might impelement next year is to crush up some glass in container, getting some string and dipping that in glue...than take the string and dip it in the glass chards. That should make a very good barrier that the slugs won't want to cross.

I use Sluggo plus. The "plus" is spinosad, which will help toward other pests.
