Small Adventures with The Sloth

Hi everyone, I am....The Sloth, this is effectively my 2nd post here at RIU, I have been a member and lurking since 2012.
As long as I can upload photo's from my phone, this will be the beginning of my grow journal(s), otherwise its just going to be myself rambling and wasting bandwidth.

So, Im starting this grow with Pineapple Express clones, just 4 for jow, in my newly constructed HF 6x8 greenhouse situated in my backyard about 50-60 feet from my house. The clones are about a month and a half old, looking a little immature for the amount of veg-time but its purely my own fault as I only had them under my overdrivenT-8 for too long, I havent changed the bulbs since first overdriving it years ago.

As it is now, during the day the clones are in the greenhouse, before sunset they are brought inside under 150 watt light (recent purchase)IMG_3875.JPG IMG_3876.JPG IMG_3892.JPG IMG_3878.JPG IMG_3880.JPG IMG_3863.JPG so as to prolong vegging.

I am experimenting with soil I havent used before, its the Recipe420, Ive amended ut with some EB Stone worm castings, about 30%. I can already tell the Recipe420 soil is a little light, no worries as Im using Earthjuice dry nutes, no, their dry nutes are not organic although they do contain some organics. Im also using molasses. I bubble my nutrient molasses mixture for 2 days in a 35 gallon rez. Why so much for 4 little plants you ask? I use it for my other plants such as peppers, beans, sunflowers, blueberries, flowers.

Ive attached some photo's, they really aren't in any particular order.

I hope you are enjoying my little adventure so far and visit/participate in this thread with me.

Stay green,

The Sloth

Up until the other day, my Pineapple Express clones would spend their day outdoors and would be brought in before sunset, under some weak lighting but it was enough to keep them from flipping, and then taken out the next morning.
I work fulltime, usually long hours so this was getting old fast. Im really not on any timeframe or looking to grow pounds as this is just for my own needs.

I have grown indoors exclusivly but do to life getting in the way a few years sgo, I shut it down and got rid of all my equipment except a few pumps and timers.

I had been contemplating purchasing a small cheap greenhouse for the past several months to help grow veggies, peppers and herbs though the winter months, then Harbor Freight had the 6x8 on sale a few weeks ago, plus I had one of their 20% off coupons.

The other day I hung a light, placed on timer to come on an hour before sunset, off a few hours after sunset, on an hour before sunrise, off an hour after sunrise. Good enough to keep from flowering. IMG_3928.JPGIMG_3930.JPG

Well, I just up-potted the girls into their final home, 10 gallon smartpot knock-offs with saucers and set their tomato cages. Only left to do with the cages is add wire in between the manufactured rings.

Just a short, quick update, approximately 16 days ago I up potted into 10 fabric pots.
Plants seem to be happy.
Took this pic a few days ago. They should be starting to flower here in the next week ir so. IMG_4020.JPG

Ah! I think I need to find a place for a greenhouse haha
Looking awesome there!
What about heat? Do you just leave the vent windows on the roof open?
Cheers!

IMG_3848.JPG IMG_3840.JPG Thanks Calli much appreciated.
Well, I built the greenhouse raised off the ground, kind of difficult
to see in the pics I posted earlier, but theres a gap which is covered by chicken wire and metal screen. So the window vents at the roof are open and the cooler air, if you can call it that lol, is drawn in from below...with a little help from a fan at ground level along with the 2 wall mount oscillating fans helped keep it bearable for the plants to have handled the 92°+ heat outside the greenhouse....thats the theory at least, the remainder of the summer heat and time will be the deciding factor of whether or not the flowers will tolerate it long-term....fingers crossed.

Ohwow that's neat in all senses of the word - ah and now I see it on the other pix too, quite clearly too if you know what to look for :D

I just remembered there's a way to calculate required window sizes for conservatories/winter gardens, but my 20-year old memories are a tad faded so I can't remember how (but it's surely findable online). Just in case the top window vents turn out to not be enough ;)

But they look really happy there, and if they've already been tasting whatever temps they get when the outside is at 92°F (unless you live where it gets even hotter than that?!), I'm pretty much betting you won't have anything to worry about already. Looking forward to some beautifully lush views! :bigjoint:

Another quick update with a pic, the pineapple express clones are looking nice. Temps have again been in the 90's outside the greenhouse. Inside the greenhouse, well, maybe this weekend I'll get a guage to help monitor temp and rh.
I havent noticed any wilting, burning or anything to say the plants arent happy.

They are flowering and still being fed/watered every other day with Earth Juice Seablast. Next week we'll adjust nutes a bit as I ease them from grow to bloom nutes, about 50/50-ish.

Mr sloth those are beautiful!

If I could humbly make only one suggestion to you brother.

Start plucking fan leaves that have already powered out a branch.

If you do this, let's say around 40% of those fans, you will increase your yields huge.

Pluck some side branches also to create more.

Two simple techniques that could give you twice the pineapples and a man needs all the pineapples he can get lol.

Flowering began about a week to a week and a half ago, smelling nice....oh so nice...

Spent a little time in the greenhouse yesterday, girls are getting thirsty, to th point that everyother day water/feed wont be enough real soon. So I set-up my reservoir on my cycle timer and plumbed it into the greenhouse. Its set to run once a day. Filled with 50/50 earthjuice seablast grow/bloom. We'll see how the girls like it.

Oh goodness their already flowering my suggestion too late lol. They look just beautiful. Nothing beats outside and perhaps in the greenhouse you may be able to let them go a bit further than most .

IMG_4551.JPG Just checked the greenhouse, pineapple express so far seems to be happy with their new 50/50 nute schedule, we'll see over the course of the next week.
A pic for posterity sake.

I had a little time this morning to check on the ladies, starting to get a little hairy, adjusted nutes from 50/50 grow/bloom to 25/75 grow/bloom.
Not too much stretch, I think the plants will get just a bit taller over the next couple weeks.
