Small closet grow

this is my clost grow,, it was in a clost with about 2x1ft more space, had to be moved due to stinkage. I am running a 400w switchable on 11 females in soil, I need to know how close to can put a hps,,, it dosent have a heat glass or anything. Let me know what you think guys and gals.

well depends, i'd say 18 inches or so, a least a foot. carefull not to burn the plants direclty underneath it. i know ive made that mistake before. if you put your hand under there and its real hot its too hot for the plants. i would recommend a vented hood. heres a link for one with 6 inch flanges and glass, its what i run with an inline fan and keeps the hood about 6-8 inches off the tops. the go for 109. and some change. cant find a nicer sealed and ventable hood for anywere near a 100 bucks. As far as i know , put ure hand under and feel the temp at top of plants if its too hot for your hand then its too hot for your plants.
