gay....see why peeps gotta hate on things that have worked for others?... no one said dehydrate/stress your chica to get them gnats out. predator nematodes as you said for the win.... haven't tried but makes sense. about my advice..it works... just water on top...water on bottom..(make those stubborn gnats from wanting to breed in that soil).keep the medium more dryer than usual....make sure its not excessive so they don't wilt on you of course..
over watering, excessive water retention in your medium are almost always reasons why Gnats get established in mediums to begin with. another thing you could do make holes in your medium within your pot to air out more your medium. don't worry about hurting a couple roots. 1 gallon pot just 3-5 holes would be enough as an example.
