small grow space... need guidance

hey,
im a lil new at this, and i have a problem. ultimately i have a grow space in a cabinet that is only almost 30 inches high, and 12-16 inches wide depending on where in the cabinet. I have been trying to find a good low rider or dwarf, and the height works but the width for what ive seen needs about 2 feet. any suggestions? the length of the cabinet is huge, so that shudnt b a problem. im also a little lost on what i shud use for a light... i kno an MH and an HPS is the way to go, but i was thinking of just going with the cfls incase the plants got too big... im looking for a lady that wont be too tall but will give a high yield... right now im looking at a lowryder/diesel, a lowryder/ak47 or a G!# poison dwarf... any suggestions? any1 have a grow journal who sucessfully has grown any of these i could read up on? thanks in advance guys... i have my faith, here is where ill find help...

I did a dresser grow for a while, and I found that the HPS is a little too hot. Your probably going to be better off going with the CFLs IMO, just be sure to get multiple 100 watt cfls, and position them around so that your plants have 360 lighting. Remember to keep the plant about an inch to two inches from the light sources(never much further). As for strain, your right in thinking you'll want a shorty, and remember to swap your lights to 12/12 when your plant is about 1/2 your growing environments height. Topping couple help as well.

I suspect that this will be a soil grow? The pot will eat almost one foot of your space. Even a small HID will have to have a space of a foot between the light and the plant. The lamp and hangers another almost foot and you have no space left for the plant. I don't think T5's will fit well in there and that leaves CFL. Just my thoughts, good luck with your grow!

There's something called LST, low stress training where you tie the plant downward back to the pot gently but not too gentle you want to get it to bend and manipulate it to grow downward like a bush.

Maybe search on here for LST and see if you want to try that. If you're doing CFL you'll want at least 100 watts of CFL wattage bulbs. Like 4 27watt 6500K bulbs per plant for vegetating and 27 watt 2700K bulbs for flowering. That's what everyone's told me about CFL growing anyways.

Look into everything XUM just said.

You can get some extreme LST going on if you start the plant from an early age. There's a journal on here that a guy did. He went around the entire rim of the pot he was growing in. Basically, the plant will do whatever you want it to as long as you dont break the stem(as the plant gets older, the lower parts of the stem will get harder and the upper parts will remain malleable)so remember to LST from a YOUNG age.
