ive been reading and reading so im just going to ask.

Im going to do a small set up in soil. Like a cabinet or some thing.
Cost is my biggest concern. I do not have the funds so alot is going to be DIM(Do it myself).

http://cgi.ebay.ca/All-RED-900-LED-HYDROPONIC-BUDDING-GROW-LIGHT-PANEL-LOT-/370509363913?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5644143ac9

these would be what im thinking for the led lights, red/blue used accordingly.
or i would use 6500k and 2700k cfls.

i would go with an area of about 5x5 for bloom and 5x5 for veg, using cfl's for a clone box.

While vegging im going to LST in the hydromix
i have grown outside before. just want a steady personal supply so i dont have to buy it.

LST+soil with "general hydroponics" Floranova grow/bloom what kind of yeilds could i expect per plant

when talking 5 x 5 areas, the most cost effective solution is HID by quite a lot
i use cfl's in a small space, and they work great there, but it will cost you to do 5 x 5 in cfl's(and would be worse for led's)
fluorescent tubes would be more cost effective in the large spaces, but not sure they would be cheaper than HID(for good results)

the usual advice for a 5 x 5 space is a 1000 watt hps, a very common setup
not sure what the size MH for a veg area, but it is possible to do a good veg with just hps(if you're cost driven)

You jumped from led/cfl straight to hps! You are wet behind the ear with the indoor growing. You have to do a lot of research by yourself on each of the lights, colour spectrum, penetration, cost, look at other growers threads, what ventilation your gonna have, temps. I also recomend a flourescent fixture, 4 foot tubes and eight of them will give you a good 4ftx4ft of very short plants. Maybe split the rooms and have a small grow area with flourescents and a bigger flowering area with hps. The choices are endless but i think your limitations with where you grow will help you in your final choice. I personally recomend that you stay away from small cfl's, i don't rate them for anything more than a shoebox grow!lol! I use the big cfl's for flowerin 200watt one and a 250 watt one, still a 250hps would give me similar results. It was quite a fun time in my life deciding my grow lights and tent and fan etc etc. I would steer you away from leds and cfl's to more traditional ways as will be easier to start with but a lot do ok with cfl's and leds. Good luck and enjoy!

one more thought here on what constitutes a small grow, 5 x 5 is not small(by my perspective), but it's a matter of opinion
a well done 5 x 5 can bring in 2 lbs of dry buds(this can vary of course), so i guess your target for harvest weight should be a consideration
