Small pots = stunted growth?

hey guys, I believe my plants have outgrown their pot size and am planting on transplanting into 1 gallon pots. However, i was wondering, will this risk shocking my plants? I am in my 5th day of flowering but I notice the roots are starting to creep out of the bottom 5 holes of every pot. I think this lack of transplant is reason my veg went slow and since I had to veg early and at a relatively small size I'm hoping good care during the flowering stage will help compensate

yes, the small pots could be the reason for stunted growth, because the roots don't have anywhere else to expand to. as long as you are very careful transplanting you shouldn't shock them; i'm pretty sure everyone's going to say go ahead and transplant.

hope this helps!!

it does, this is what I thought. I just have a few subquestions with that thought in mind.

Right now I am in Scotts potting soil. However, I have been having problems with gnats even when I'm underwatering. I was at the hydroponics store and he was suggesting I go with this house mix which was like perlite, peet moss(?), and some other stuff I cant remember(he knew what he was talking about)... The thing is, I dont have a ppm meter and have been kind of winging it in terms of my ppm, usually giving them less nutes then more and he said that this house mix has no pre loaded nutes so I would have to immediatly start a regiment. I am a little ambivalent to this. Im using Maxigrow 12-5-14

Whoa, stop right there, before you go any further, let an old man catch up here. Your are using soil for a grow, you have plants in flowering that are going to be transplanted up to a one gallon size? You need to get 3-3/1/2 gallon pots for a soil grow. Period.

However, I have been having problems with gnats even when I'm underwatering.
Gnats like soil and coco-coir. You have to deal with that, they like peet as well so that won't solve the gnat problem, thats a seperate issue.

Do you like him? Remember he wants you to succeed, his business depends on successful growers. A lot of soil growers kinda 'wing it', they just follow the recommended dose per gallon or quart and mix that amount in thier ph'd water. If your plants look healthy the probably are, if they look sick you may have to do better at winging it, might be fun. VV
