Small Rant

I wonder why it's always pointed out that the cheap led are chinese made. And when they cost more and are from china, they're automatically a rip off. I'm pretty sure most t5 and MH/HPS are from there too and so are likely the ballasts. So that's not really a reason for me to not buy one anyways.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't know if this helps but I have been eyeballing some t5 uva and uvb , and thinking about using as finishing bulbs ( side lighting ). Any thoughts.
don't know what your primary grow light is but I found adding about 6% UVA to the mix really improved resin production. just my 2 cents worth

I know I can't speak for everyone here. But when someone posts asking very specific questions, it seems the jump to answer is always get COB. It's quite old and frankly not always correct answer. In fact it very rarely is. Why are these boards at that point where no matter the question the answer is get cob? COB's may very well be an amazing lighting option, but they are not for everyone and I'm sick and tired of COB's being shoved down everyone's throat here. The manner in which it is done is also highly suspect. I'd wager that many of these posters are getting some sort of a kick back or deep discount on their orders for doing it. It's appalling. Just the other day I posted asking for lighting advice given a budget of no more than $150 and that DIY is not an option. I have only 1 arm so I can't just BUILD something. When I continued to protest against spending extra money to get a cob kit I was insulted. I don't know if these boards use mods or admins or what not but something has to be done to clean this up. Nobody should be insulted for asking for recommendations given a set budget or any other circumstance.

Thanks for reading.
Wish I had a good answer or helpful info but I'm still trying to figure all this light info out myself. Sucks people act like that though. Screw those people and their childish behavior, and I agree with your post. People should be able to seek help without being ridiculed or attacked etc by nerds.

I have been growing for a few years and i'm still learning new things and trying out new ideals. my current grow is much better than my first grow but I still have a long ways to go.we need to remember that we were all newbies once and should put away our egos and try to help new growers with the best advice we can give from our own experience.newbies need to understand that there is no one best way to grow. do as much research as possible and listen to the opinion of experienced growers but then test everything and find out what works best for you

I came to realize early on that life ain't perfect and shure as shit don't I expect my green to be perfect.

Whatever we all grow here, if we don't screw up the very basics, we all get good smoke. We all learn, we all have fun.
Dingbats who insist on "the one true way" can just bugger off.

Environmental conditions matter. In my case, LED probably wouldn't save much electricity because I need the heat my HID lamps generate. Probably have to run a heater with LED, which kills one of the big advantages.
Of course this will change when the weather gets warmer. I'll definitely be taking a closer look at new technology when it makes sense.

Weird, I like COBs but there are a lot of ways to grow a plant. Having one arm must be a pain in the ass, I have a buddy in the same boat. Nothing "happened" to it, he just was born without. I don't think there are nefarious kickbacks for pushing COB components happening, but I could be wrong, I didn't realize it was a problem at all.
I use T5's with uvb for the first half of flower and a 600w hps for the last half. If you shop smart you could get. 600w hid setup for $150

Man I just researched all this again about 6 months ago. I do it every couple years ever since I first heard about LED grow lights.

The technology just isn't mature yet, not on the market. They're overpriced and that's if you find ones that'll actually perform and endure. The rest are just marketing and cheap parts.

I grew and flowered with T5s for years. They work great. You don't even need UVB. I recently switched to HPS though and there's no looking back. These new units get less hot than the T5s for the wattage. And, low heat output was why I originally chose T5s.

Don't buy anything anyone pushes on a forum. Don't buy anything form spam email. If everyone stopped they'd stop bothering us.

When I first started growing I went with pll fluorescent lights and was given a hard time by hid users. Then I set up a small area for seedlings / clones using cfl. Got a hard time over that too. Then with knna, supraspl, and wizzzard starting diy leds we were given a hard time.

Doing scrog might be easier for you than lst. Great you have help. Whatever works for you and you're happy with is all that matters
