Small (stealth) grow room and don't have room for everybody, but I have a idea....

Since I have 4 females that I just put in 12/12 flowering and 6 seedlings, I don't know any other way but to put the 4 girls in a tall box and put in complete dark for their 12 hours, leaving my small grow room on 24 or 18/76 since they've got a good start. The reason I have two different sizes is because I thought I only got 4 come up from seeds. But a kind stranger on here (how to I give him props?) showed me that I actually had some broken seeds but I had buried them too deep FYI-I'm in Newbie Central, so I wound up with 4 plants that are 6-7" tall and the 6 new, barely with any leaves plants. I actually have little choice unless anybody else has been here. My grow area is 18 inches wide, 18 inches deep, and 4 feet tall. I'm a girl and I don't know how to write proportions properly, but we won't get into that, it's the same reason we have trouble with North, East, South and West, okay? Now moving on I have a great box for my girls, it's perfect for a little air and NO LIGHT. Comments?

If u cover them make sure no light leaks. I once tried that on my outdoor monster but it rained and the box colapsed and fucked my plant up. So be careful

Let your flowering plants flower. Don't fuck with them. Pick up a T5 florescent for your veg and put them where you can. You can always make a small nursery box for them to chill in until they are ready to flower.

The thing that concerns me as I thought about it last night when I put them to bed and closed the box. What about oxygen or fresh air? Yikes! I forgot about that. Are you supposed to keep a fan on them when you have them asleep? I haven't done that with them so far, I've just set the timer to go off and everything goes off. It's hard to put a fan on them AND keep the light out in my small grow room.

Well I would get a small pc fan or something you need some air circulation. Or a cut holes in it and put a breathable material that doesn't allow light through

not so easy to have a hole without some light getting in, but I guess the trick is to block as much as possible

I'm move my plant into a dark closet to trigger flowering....I have no ventilation or fan, thus I am a wee bit uncomfortable not having a fresh air supply, but have not seen any ill effects so far

I thought about that but was worried about light. Okay, tonight I'll try that.

Hey guys, I just watched vid on trimming from an "very experinced grower" and before I mohawk my AK-48, please look at this and tell me what you think. Am I supposed to do this? I have lots of small growth coming up my stem from everywhere like morning bed hair or the other one (as a girl with long blonde hair, you get the idea). Please let me know as I have scissors in hand and the plant on the table.

a very controversial subject

IMO ....if you have to ask then I would say don't do it, best to read up on it first

I've gone so far as to trim the ends of some of the leaves, like blunting them off and it took off. But I don't feel I have enough experience to know which leaves to actually cut off. I counted like 7-8 average bud sites on that one and the same on a couple of the others, and I've done some leaf bending (one leaf under the under to provide more "sun" to the mega structure underneath), but I hesitate to start whacking all the fan leaves.

don't cut off any healthy leaves, not even bit and pieces and/or the tips...why are you doing this when you are self admitting your inexperience and lack of knowledge?

Like I said, or maybe I didn't, I've got enough plants going on here that if I ruin one, it's no big deal, I'm trying to get more space anyway. But with that said, so far, I haven't messed up anything, it actually improved them. It turned out to be one of the healthiest things I've done since I cant afford the nutes and soil and lights you guys have. I have to experiment with other ways to grow to reduce height and still get a good yield. It's okay, I promise. Here, look some of the before. I also have one that was blocked to increase growth in center. Found several references on youtube. Hang on for the after photos, phone is acting up. Look at 3 and 5 look at the undergrowth trying to get light. And 6 is just a plain weird plant. Still waiting on phone.

These plants range from 5-9 what do you call them? Leaves on a leaf? No, that's not right. What's the dif between 5 and 9 leaves? I've heard everything from plant strain to male or female.

your box sounds great and your plants are very pretty. what is your flower lighting?

The leaves have fingers, so 7-9 on most mature leaves. Thats a good sign they are old enough to top (cut the growing tip off the main stem) or bend over for height training.
4' is enough to flower a plant if you train one, (EDIT - didn't realise they can't all fit in 18" across, hey)

You do need a small desk fan (an swinging one is the best) in there to keep air moving - it helps prevent mould attacking your buds and makes your stems stronger too.

You can grow the seedlings anywhere with a few fluro light bulbs in a lamp holder and move them to the flower cab when they hit puberty.

You can even put a hamster in there. it will generate CO2 and the plants can breathe that. then open the door a few times a day and they will get enough fresh air exchange as well.

EDIT: i am so baked and I can't sleep, definitely rambling

Yea, that was the problem. But I only have 4 in flower and the new "house" is roomy enough for the moment. I'll have to get creative when they hit two feet and start getting stocky with bud.

I forgot about the mold issue. So I should keep them as dry as possible in the dark? I'm glad you said that because I put a little cup of water in the box for some reason. I just felt like it would help since they didn't have a fan to help with air. I know, that doesn't make any sense, does it? Anyway, water OUT! Thanks!

Puberty. I'm having that problem right now. Knowing when that is. A grow friend that was coaching me said to put my 24 day old females in flower 3 days ago. AK-48s grow out in 48 days, or so the website says on Nirvana as well as the Pure Power Plants. But I'm concerned they're too young. If they will actually flower at this age then I feel like they'll make it. They are stocky and healthy but only 7" tall. However, I've fimmed or topped whatever you call it when you pinch off the new growth at the top. I've done it a couple of times each on my females and they have 4-5 different sets of braches growing each way as they come out, like lattice. Can they flower? Don't they grow another foot or so in flower?

You can even put a hamster in there. it will generate CO2 and the plants can breathe that. then open the door a few times a day and they will get enough fresh air exchange as well.
A hamster? Now that's a new one. Makes sense tho. Only the girls are in a separate box from 8pm to 8am. Complete darkness. I do have a vent hole that faces a dark part of the room. I'm leaving the others (6) in 18/6. They were in complete dark their first couple of nights, but I changed them to 18/6. I know they are a little confused but growing just fine. I keep messing with them. Trim here, snip there, new soil near roots, new soil on top before I water so that the new nutes from the soil gets in. That's when I don't give nutes in water form.

EDIT: i am so baked and I can't sleep, definitely rambling
No more than I do. I tend to write long posts and have to censor myself sometimes. Thanks for ALL your help!

Ok lets do colours too

I had a closer look at your plant pics, (they are looking lovely) the second one shows some white patches on a few leaves - i hope that isn't spreading...
watch out for powdery mildew,

And get ready for them to explode in size for the next 2-3 weeks. If those are ak48s then they are showing typical afghani indica structure from their genetics, but they have plenty of sativa crossed into them so they will stretch to at least 40-60cm i'm guessing.

Do you have lighting to cope with that?

Keep the pictures coming, see you at the top

Lighting? What lights? Gotcha! No, I actually do have a low-key lighting system because of the stealth issue but I have a total of 4000 lumens in a space 18" x 18" x 4 feet tall. Rather skinny and tall but it's got really reflective material on all sides including ceiling and floor. So it's really bright in there. I actually have to wear sunglasses (literally) when checking them at night in contrast to a dark bedroom. I totally forget the wattage.

I'm getting new pics together now. I just can't seem to get away with my "white powdery stuff" BUSTED! I must have had my dollar bill in my hand when I leaned over the plant. Gotcha! No, it's actully 7-dust (cringe@#$%^&). That's all I had and just before bed one night, I noticed that one of my leaves looked like something had been munching on it so I went out in the garage and swiped some 7-dust. It worked and ever since I've been trying to drench it with water when I spritz but it keeps showing back up- yes i know it is in fact the 7 and not bugs. It's not going to be in the smoke tho cause it'll get cut off. But good catch!

ok I'm not gonna ride you on this one, but I deal with pests more organically - if you wanna produce medical grade smoke you should stay away from the nasty shit.

from wikipedia -

Carbaryl (1-naphthyl methylcarbamate) is a chemical in the carbamate family used chiefly as an insecticide. It is a white crystalline solid commonly sold under the brand name Sevin

Carbaryl kills both targeted (e.g. malaria-carrying mosquitos) and beneficial insects (e.g. honeybees), as well as crustaceans.

Although approved for more than 100 crops in the US, carbaryl is illegal in several countries, including the United Kingdom, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Iran, Germany, and Angola.[4]

Carbaryl is often produced using methyl isocyanate (MIC) as an intermediary. A leak of MIC used in the production of carbaryl caused the Bhopal disaster, the largest industrial accident in history. This accident caused around 11,000 deaths and over 500,000 injuries.

Carbaryl is a cholinesterase inhibitor and is toxic to humans. It is classified as a likely human carcinogen by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA.)[5] The oral LD50 is 250 to 850 mg/kg for rats and 100 to 650 mg/kg for mice.
I can tell you about neem oil, chilli/garlic mash sprays, soap washes and other cool ways to fight of the bugs. But for your own health's sake please consider the above as a friendly bit of advice.

Dang! Thank you. I had NO idea. Sheesh! Thank God I only put it on one plant. And I have tried and tried to spray it off with water but you can mainly see it in photos. It's actually hard to see with the naked eye. I just need to cut the exposed leaves off since I put it on the bottom leaves. I didn't put a lot since I didn't want it to affect my plant. But I had no idea how bad it was. I wonder why folks use it on their tomatoes. Pls do tell me about those other bug repellants!
